Pub showing every NCFC game live

Recommended Posts

If the pub or venue is actually signed up to Sky Italia (sky italia box, sky italia card etc) then there isn''t a problem. Rileys and Weatherspoons are currently working out deals to install sky italia in a load of their venues.

Its only if you haven''t paid for Sky Italia and are receiving it that it''s illegal.

That was the whole gist of the Portsmouth ruling. We''re in Europe, so why can''t we buy European products - such as sky italia.
For the record, Rileys did have SKY Italia installed, but have now had it uninstalled due to the threat of legal action from SKY.The rumour is that SKY have changed all the rights for anyone to show 3pm kick offs, because they have first showing rights of all Premier League games, unless they are on ESPN.

This whole thing about Sky taking a publican to court is wrong, the people who Sky should be taking to court over this is the Premier League.

Sky brought exclusive rights to show premiership games in this country, the premier league then goes off and flogs the same stuff to other broadcasters, at probably lower costs, to show the games in other countries. In this day and age, due to a free european market and the internet, it is impossible to restrict who shows what and where. There is no ''law'' that does not allow you to watch any channel you wish, you can subscribe to any foreign channel you wish to, why should there be a restriction if it''s a sports channel?

Sky should not be pursuing someone who legally subscribed to a channel, they should be pursuing the premier league for not fulfilling their end of the bargain of an ''exclusivity contract'' that is impossible , and probably illegal, to enforce.

Plan B, the case presented to the European Court is between Karen Murphy and the Premier League. Sky are not involved.

Well, I was half right!

Even so the premier leagues beef should be with the tv company that sold the publican the subscription, either that or be more stricter with the contract they made when they sold them the rights. Either way, it really isn''t the publicans problem, the premier league can''t make up laws, that''s down to parliaments etc, they haven''t got a leg to stand on if they continue to pursue someone who legally brought a tv channel, they really should be after the Italian/Greek channel who sold her it, unless of course they realise that the contract they made them didn''t include this sort of thing.
