kennyfoggo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 offy siteCITY defender Craig Fleming was today made team captain on a permanent basis to allow Adam Drury to concentrate solely on his football.Fleming was already club captain at Carrow Road but has been standing in for Drury since he lost his place in the first team shortly before Christmas.Today, City boss Nigel Worthington said the decision had been made in the best interests of Adam."After much consideration we have decided that the new team captain on a permanent basis will be Craig Fleming, so that Adam Drury can concentrate fully on his football and have no distractions," he said. DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted January 10, 2005 It''s good news. Hopefully Adam will improve his game. However, it will have really knocked his confidence if he was stripped of it. I hope Drury volunteered
nolegs 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Totally logical to me Flem has always had plenty to say for himself on the field and hopefully this will help Drury regain the form we know he has.
Helsinki canary 312 Posted January 10, 2005 I think this is a good move, I for one have never felt that giving Drury the captaincy helped his own game - already last season he lost concentration - so this is the chance to let him really fight for his place back in the first 11. NavMan 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Yeah should have been done long ago. To me Drury did not impose himself much and maybe he is somebody who prefers to be in the background and is not a natural leader. Hope he can now get back to his best.
KeelansGlove 0 Posted January 10, 2005 I Personally dont think it is a particularly good Idea.If I were to choose a captain it would probably be one of the first names on the team sheet and I would say that Charlton, Green, Francis and Huckerby would certainly be on the team sheet first.Lets be honest if we sign another centre half he wont be replacing Doc.my vote would probably go to Francis.Flem will be a good captain just not sure if he will be playing regularly. Mello Yello 2,585 Posted January 10, 2005 Personally, I hope it doesn''t mean he''s on his way to pastures new.....And maybe, that I''m just looking a little too deeply into things. Nearly as bad as getting a vote of confidence from the Chairman and the board. OTBC ;~
Canarychick 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Flem does shout at the players and is more like Malky used to be. When Drury was captain, you wouldn''t have known it if he wasn''t wearing his "captain" armband!
shropshire canary 0 Posted January 10, 2005 I think KG that this is an indication that he WILL continue to play regularly
Gentleman Jim 0 Posted January 10, 2005 This may be seen to be a heartless decision but I think it will solve Drury''s lack of form problem.I feel that from the time the captaincy was placed on his shoulders his play deteriorated. The same thing happens to English cricketers, great scores galore until the captaincy then the runs dry up.He is not IMHO captaincy material, this must have made it all the harder for him to cope with the job, especially with our results this year.We will have now regained a first class defender, Good luck to him. Northern Canary 0 Posted January 10, 2005 its good news. i think drury can cut it with a lil work. now he has no pressure on him.
The Original Yellow Fever 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Well done Adam, Now get back In form ,get out there and KICK ARSE!
John Boubepo 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Adam has been one of the most consistent players until recently and to be honest it''s only a slight dip in form he''s going through. By all accounts he has a great character, we already know the potential he has, I have no doubt he''ll bounce right back and become a key figure in the short and long term future. LinkNR9 0 Posted January 10, 2005 Although I can understand why Worthy has done this, I personally feel that it''s not good news, because it infers that Flem will continue at centre back; in his current form, I feel that he is our weakest link in defence. Nobody''s mentioned Matty Jonson yet, who leads by example and gives 110% in a match.
ZLF 342 Posted January 11, 2005 I think this is mixed news - Drury, whilst solid enough, is not the right person to be team captain and does not inspire enough on the pitch, so I agree with removing this from him. However like link I am not comfortable with Flem picking up the role. His attitude on the pitch too frequently is to blame others, not what I expect from a captain who should rollock (lovely word) when required but also cajole, encourage & motivate. His glares this season and his repeated falling out with Charlie are examples of this. Together with his indifferent form I do think he is the wrong person too. Perhaps he was the easy choice as he is already club captain. To me either Charlie (to contentious given the public spats with Flem), Damo (too young?)Helveg (not favoured) or Doc (too new at teh club) would be better choices.OTBC
Big Rob 0 Posted January 11, 2005 Great decision to give Drury a break. He needs to concentrate on his own game before worrying about others at the moment. I would say Helveg would have been a better option thou. He is a natural leader and now showing his true grit! But saying that, i can have no complaints about Flem. bananaman 0 Posted January 11, 2005 As per, I''m with Zipper. I don''t like this news for two reasons, one being that Flem is consistently our worst defender and this news means he is likely to be first choice at all times.Secondly, he tends to have a "pop" at all those surrounding him when a goal goes in, or nearly goes in.Still, he''s a great servant to NCFC and a pretty intimidating bloke. I''m sure NW knows what he''s doing but I do feel a bit wary of this one.

Its the captain''s job to transmit the manager''s messages on the pitch to his team-mates, and i can''t think of a better player for the job at the moment. Helveg for vice-captain
