Do we need another Wes?

Recommended Posts

One of the things that has been painfully clear in the last couple of seasons is how much we miss Wes when he is out of the team. So much of our play goes through him. Ok we have other midfielders who can create such as Surman and Fox but neither of these are the type of players who create something out of nothing and unlock a defence in the way Wes does (e.g. setting up Lansbury vs Brizzle). I guess with the addition of Bennett we can play a more traditional 4-4-2 if Wes is out of the side, with say Surman Crofts and Fox making up the rest of the midfield. But Lambert likes two players for every position so should we be seeking another creative force to provide back up and competition for Wes? I think so.

I heard Bennett can play in that position mate, but maybe we can get Pacheco back, wouldn''t mind Lansbury be he seems to think he can push into the Arsenal first team. I think we have Bennett as cover but Bennett to add another dimension if we need to change it when Hoolahan is injured. I would love to see another player added in the position because it can be a exciting addition but i''d rather see money spent in other positions

Take the point about wanting money spent in other positions (i.e. specialist right back) but you seem to be implying that because Hooly''s position/role is ''exciting'' and you''d rather see money spent elsewhere, it''s not that important. A luxury maybe. And yet backing him up with another genuine creative force is, to me, just as important as having back up at say, centre back. Because when we''re without Hoolahan''s exciting play we are much less potent. Unless Bennett really can play a Hoolahan role in the centre. We''ll find out in due course i guess!
