Bennett and Pilkington - Inside Out Wingers?

Recommended Posts

Obviously we haven''t signed Pilkington yet but I note that both him and Bennett are right footers who have played on the left. Given that inside out wingers are now a common feature of the modern game does this mean Paul Lambert is looking to change formation or is he just formulating a ''Plan B''?One one hand such a player would suit us very well as the inside out winger naturally moves inside and leaves space for an attacking full back of which we have two (although maybe a left footed winger who plays on the right would be better?). But on the other hand it makes it difficult for a traditional centre forward such as Grant Holt to time his runs as the wingers slow down play by cutting back on their favoured foot before crossing.Could be nothing but Paul Lambert doesn''t seem the sort of manager who will have missed such a trend.

He is two footed to be fair Pilkington. So he would be equally comfortable on either flank. So they could potentially switch flanks if we werent having much joy. Thats obviously if he actually signs!

So Pilkington, if he signs, could potentially play on the right but also cut in on his left foot. Might suit us away from home in a 4-5-1 with full backs providing the width?
