Pilkington

Recommended Posts

I notice that Huddersfield are announcing a double signing tomorrow. Would it be possible that a swap deal is on the cards?
He''s decent but should we be spending millions on another league 1 player?
I think he''s a touch more than decent! He and Elliot Bennett were the two stand-out players in League One last season and both fully capable of making the step up. In fact, it has been said that Pilks and Bennett are very similar in style, with Pilkingham just slightly better. The difference being that Pilkington is excellent with both legs, giving him versatility. He is can play on either wing or down the middle, in a Hoolahan-type role. In addition, he and James Vaughan are very good friends, I believe. They know each other and train together regularly, which makes for better team play.Lee Clark must be p****d!I''m very pleased if true.

The HT fans were saying that, indeed, he was well and truly pissed off yesterday.

Well if this is true and he is signed, then that''s great. But let''s just hope that there is no permanent damage from the leg break he suffered and that he makes a full recovery. I trust our medical staff will make sure this is the case before he''s signed up.

Isn''t he still recovering from a bad injury?
Saw a specialist only this morning, he has been kicking a ball and will be able to resume full training before the season starts.

Yesterday he told Clark that he wants to leave Huddersfield. The Chairman says "if a Premier League Club comes in for him and we get the right offer he will be allowed to leave."

It''s like a rather uncomplicated jigsaw.

Thanks.

Whilst he is highly rated I do have reservations. Even if he will be able to resume full training before the season starts, do we really want to spend money on a player who is said to be similar to Bennett, and has spent a good chunk of this season recovering from a broken leg? If we are to avoid relegation we need to hit the ground running.

Still, ''In Lambert We Trust''...

But Lambert won''t take a chance on this, we will have had medical specialists on the case (if it is us he is heading for).

It''s all about creating the best competition for all places throughout the squad. Some will rise to the challenge and others will fall by the wayside but there is no way of knowing who will fare the best until they are tested at that level, regardless of  my own ideas on that. The bigger the squad and the more quality, the better our chances of success in the Prem.  Bargains can be found and Lambert is not too bad at finding them.

"He''s decent but should we be spending millions on another league 1 player?"It annoys me when people offer a thinly veiled criticism but offer no alternative options. We have a right winger, and now need a left winger to enable Lambert to play a 4-4-2. McNamee will stay as an emmergency winger as he can play left or right.Seeing as that we now need a left winger, and you seem to object to us signing one from League One, who is it exactly that you propose we buy instead? The best left winger in The Championship, Kris Commons, went to Celtic 6 months ago. I look forward to seeing your long list of options for what is the hardest position to fill in world football. For a team to have two decent left wingers within a decade (e.g. Eadie and Huckerby) is in itself a massive rarity. We were clearly priced out of Snodgrass, whilst Scott Sinclair got promoted. There is nothing wrong with being critical, or critiquing, if you offer alternatives..... but if you don''t come up with alternatives it can really dent your credibility. In fact, not sure why I even wasted the energy on this post.

I thought Pilkington played right wing depsite being left footed, like Snodgrass? Can probably play both though. No dismissing Pilkington at all, but another obvious left winger we could go in for would be Peter Whittingham

I would definitely have Peter Whittingham, if we can get him. I''m not saying that Pilkington is necessarily the best option, I''m just saying that the options are very limited when buying a left winger and that poster offered no alternatives. I can''t see us getting him cheap though, Cardiff are very ambitious. Suppose it depends on whether Malky thinks he needs the money. Reckon he would cost us £3m. I''d like to think that we have a couple of defenders and a keeper coming in too, so have no idea what kind of budget Lambert is shooting for.

Pilkington can play either left or right, but if we have Bennett on the right, and McNamee on the left, then I can only see Pilkington coming in as a left winger. Likewise though, where was Whittingham playing last year? Because Bellars wasn''t playing up front was he? Whenever I saw Bellars he was on that left side.Whittingham was playing centre mid, doesn''t make him a centre midfielder though. Although that does make Whittingham an even more attractive option, because he could compete for that Surman role in the diamond as well as the left wing spot if Lambert wants to switch to 4-4-2..

I doubt very much that he will be in the 25.

Pilkington > Bennett IMO.

Vaughan''s signing will give us an edge if there are other clubs in for Pilks as well. They''re big pals.

I''ll be very happy with this. Very good player, Pilkington and Bennett on the wings excites me. And considering the way a number of teams currently play in the Prem it is vital we have a wide option.

Really don''t see how he would improve our starting line-up.  I think the rumoured £1.8 million is far too steep for him and I would much rather we went for other targets in the midfield.  May get proven wrong but that''s my opinion.
