Premier League Rules for Squad and Loans

Recommended Posts

For the new season we can have a squad of 25 plus players under 21

This means that with 29 contracted players, the 4 out of contract have surely left and 5 under age, Daley, Ball, Francomb, Steer and Rudd we currently only have room for 1 more player, assuming that we would like to make all our players available. With Lambert wanting another 6 this means at least 5 are on their way in shortish order.

With only 2 domestic long term loans allowed as well, we need to pick these very carefully indeed.

How about Boyota and Cleverly?

Sorry, have you included the 4 out of contract in you 29? If not that would mean we have 5 spaces left (5 youth & 4 OOC).

Also have you included Vaughan? Surely Lambert will send a few on loan for the whole season?

Would also love to see Boyota and Cleverly on loan (but that''s more from a champ manager influence)

Getting 7 new players in means that we will inevitably release some players.

However a plan b for me is that those with longer term potential that PL does not see featuring/quite being good enough this season shoudl remain NCFC players but loaned out.

A prime example would be cody - a storming season in league 2, hold onto his registration but loan him to a champs team to continue his development; if we get relegated we then know whether he is good enough to help us get repromoted or should just be sold.

Others who fit that bill for me would be Rudd, Tierny, Wilbraham - all wuld be good for us back in the champs if the worst happens

Ones to sell are Gill, OTJ, Hughes

You want to send Tierny out on loan?! Think left back is sorted. Tierny to start with Drury as cover.

Tierney will be first choice, with Drury as back up, maybe used against the bigger teams when we want to be more defensive...

I really don''t think any of the first team can be written off. Its only the ones like Gill, OTJ, Hughes that didn''t play much/at all that you can really doubt.

1) All Premier League clubs must submit a squad of up to 25 players, by 5pm on Wednesday, September 1.

2) Each 25-man squad must include at least eight ''home-grown'' players.

3) The ''home-grown'' players do not have to be English. According to the Premier League: "A home grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)." In practice this means that Cesc Fabregas, who joined Arsenal when he was 16, counts as one of the Gunners'' home-grown quota.

4) In addition to the 25-man named squad, clubs can use an unlimited number of players aged 21 or under. According to the Premier League: "An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2011/12 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1990."

5) Clubs can make changes to their squad but only during transfer windows, so once submitted the clubs will be stuck with that squad until January. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as a goalkeeper crisis, can changes be made outside the window, and then only if the Premier League board approves the changes.

6) Once the transfer window opens again, there are no restrictions on how many changes clubs can make to their squads, so they can replace the entire 25 if they want to.

7) Even if a player is not named in the 25-man squad, they can still play in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League or Europa League.

8) Players from the 25-man squad cannot be replaced if they are loaned to Football League clubs, but can regain their spot in the group if they return to the parent club.

9) Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named.

10) Similarly, clubs do not have to name eight ''home-grown'' players if they do not have enough, but this would mean submitting a reduced squad.

Lots of juggling to do then.

Don''t forget Declan Rudd and Korey Smith are only 20 so would not be included in the 25. Also if we signed Pacheco or Lansbury permanently or on loan they would also be excluded as they are also 20.

Sounds like a plan.

Sorry I have got my figures wrong

We have a squad of 29 including Vaughan, 7 are 21 or under

Squad;GKs Ruddy, Rudd, Steer

FBsTierney, Drury, R Matin, Francomb, S Smith

CBs Barnett, Ward, Whitbread

MF; Tudor-Jones, K Smith, Hughes, Ball, Crofts, Fox, Adeyemi, Surman, Lappin

AM; Hoolohan and McNamee

Forwards, Johnson, Daley, McDonald, Holt, Martin, Vaughan, Jackson

So we would have room for 22 players which means that if 6 more come in 3 will have to go.

This is not a big problem as we have I''m afraid got some serious deadwood.

Daley,Johnson,McDonald, Hughes and Tudor-Jones will not cut in Prem.

S Smith is going

Adeyemi, K Smith on loan

and we have 6 gaps.

I have just reminded myself that we have 3 Centre halves on our books, we need 2 more.
