The Great Drinkell 51 Posted January 16, 2005 Imagine for a minute after we had played Villa we were on the way home listening to the radio and were told that Greeno would be out for the rest of the season and Huckerby was also on the long term injury list. How would you feel? - doomed to relegation? So how must the Southampton fans be feeling with Niemi and Phillips in this situation? West Brom are still struggling to win games and need 3 to catch us so our game with them is a cup final and a win over Palace would put us above them. The battle is still in our own hands. The 3 to go down WBA, Saints and either Palace or us.
FilletTheFishWife . 0 Posted January 16, 2005 One difference :- Soton have £6M to spend from selling Beattie
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Neimi and Phillips aren''t out long term. Couple of weeks at most. It''s peanuts compared to our injury list. Also did you not see West Brom this afternoon? They looked damn good to me
Brum Uni Canary 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Interesting to hear Strachan''s comment on MotD2 tonight that WBA have enough points at this stage of the season to stay up. This surely must apply to Saints and us as well. A good loan signing and a suitable formation could help us no end, especially in the closing stages of the season where lots of realistic points look a possibility. Anderz 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Southampton had to pay Blackburn a slice of the £6m they got for Beattie, and have increased their wage costs with Redknapp Jnr. and Calum Davenport so it''s probably not as much as £6m left to spend - still a good point though. Smudge 0 Posted January 17, 2005 ummmmmmmmmm................both are expected short term injuries
3pmkickoff 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Still feel the same as I do now. Hucks isn''t posing much of a threat at the moment, Green obviouly would be a big loss but I have confidence in our other keepers.Southampton don''t have £6 million from Beatty either, they had to give 1.5-2 of it to Blackburn
shropshire canary 0 Posted January 17, 2005 The key is getting enough points in Feb/March to get us to that last few games of a run-in where our fixtures look winnable. If we''re as adrift as we are now come mid April we''ve definitely got a chance, but if we HAVE to win them all AND rely on some other results too then it''ll be the greatest of escapes.Feb is key - we must beat WBA and Man City at home and get a point at Blackburn - none will be easy but anything less than 5 or 6 points that month and I fear the worst: even the Baggies could have overtaken us by March with their Feb fixtures (Palarse, Southampton at home and us)
Dean Coneys boots 1,531 Posted January 17, 2005 You say WBA looked good. But then so have we on many occasions. Equally WBA looked absolutely terrible against Liverpool- just as we were against Villa! It is all about form and desire, something we need from here on in. Hopefully Saturday will act as a wake up call. Hopefully our lads come back sooner than hoped for- esp. Charlton. We need a run fairly soon. Even a run of our draws would be welcome now. Then 17th is ours.....all ours...(Cue evil laughter)....alternatively if heads drop further we could easily find ourelves adrift at 20th- we have been let off all season by others results- but we cannot rely on this for long. Southampton WILL fight for it, so will palace, and WBA are finding their feet. Come on Norwich- time to stand up and fight!!
