A bit disappointed

Recommended Posts

I expected us to go up this season, I even harboured an idea around Xmas that we might possibly overhaul QPR by Xmas and fight them to the title. But today suggested that it might be far ''easier'' than it would have seemed a few months, or even weeks back.

Numerous folk on here before today had expressed their fears that we would stumble again, stumble against certain victims. There were concerns that the ''new manager'' syndrom would rare it''s ugly head and deny us victory. Worries that we were punching above our weight and would decidely get our come uppance today after an unwelcoime fortnight''s break.

Today blew all that out of the water. There was never really any doubt about how the game would go after the first initial flurry of activity. What there was though, was a very strange atmosphere. Yes it was fun and celebration time but there was not that edge that comes from the desperate wish to win. A desperation borne out of fear.

At times todays game was more reminiscent of a cricket game as we sat bathed in sun applauding each effort of goal as we might a fine stroke and cheering with glee as each second half goal went in - as you might a six, hit over the covers. Odd number that, six. Same number I watched hit passed us a fair few years back on another sunny afternoon. That time in South London. A time that sent us down in such humiliation and shame. Today finally buried that day.

Today wasn''t a day for triumphalism. Fair play to the Scunny fans who made the journey. Who must know that they may have a far harder fight over the next seven games, but there was not need for us to mock them. No need to celebrate beating them. Celebrate watching a team that looks nailed on winners though.

My disappointment is that a bit of the edge has gone, as today demonstrated what many have seen for some while. This club means business. Whatever it takes the club is going to do it. so It''s now rather just a matter of when, rather than if.......

.... unless of course QPR slip up tomorrow, then the chase just might be on.

Could we dare to dream ?
