Our away kit!

Recommended Posts

Was it just me or did anyone else watching the Villa game think how dull our away shirts/shorts are, how much they blend in with the grass and how difficult it must be to pick out other players at times?  Now don''t get me wrong...as shirts for fans to wear with jeans etc. I quite like them, and I''m not saying this either to make an excuse for some of the passing we''ve witnessed at times this season , but it just doesn''t seem like a striking enough kit on the field of play, in fact I wonder what the players think of it to be honest.

I sat in a chair last night and in ten minutes came up with something that would make much more of an impact, would stand out far better (and therefore look much better on tv too) and would still be popular with the supporters (I think!), whilst preserving a bit of green and yellow, i.e. our identity.

If enough people on here agree that it needs looking into I will gladly e-mail the club and put our points of view forward to them for consideration.  I know this away kit is supposed to run for another season and the home one is due for a revamp soon but it might be possible to persuade the powers that be of the need to change the away kit this summer and leave the current (really nice IMHO) home kit until the summer of 2006.  Over to you folks for your opinions.

no offence Susie, but I think the kit will be the last thing on anyones mind at Carrow Road until the end of the season.  15 games to go, 5 against top 6 clubs, I don''t care if they play in their pants and socks as long as we finish 17th.

Sorry - I think the one we currently have is a decent kit, one of the better ones we''ve had in recent times; it has also been relatively ''lucky'' (ok, this season we''ve had a couple of heavy defeats in it but se we have in our home strip), so I''d like to keep it!

A couple of early responses to you susie indicates this is likely one of those very subjective issues and, therefore, opinions will be all over the place. Having said that, I had EXACTLY the same reaction as you as I was watching the Villa match. The only difference in our positions is that, if I were responsible for the decision, I would change them immediately.

The players are having enough difficulty finding each other and this colour scheme does not stand out enough from the grass. More importantly, colours can have a significant impact upon people. If the players are down ( seems to be the case currently ) this colour will not help them. How can I see what you have come up with? Can you describe it at least for those of us that are interested

As something for a fan to wear, it is really nice - mine was complimented today for looking really nice, yet they don''t think the home kit is as "fashionable". The design is really good IMO, and a yellow version of it would be quite cool for the next home kit.

You cannot say that you are going to change a kit just because the players won''t be able to see each other when it has another year to run...only Manure can do that.
I remeber something from Biology when we were looking at the eye - the cones on the retina will pick up shorter wavelength light milliseconds quicker than blue, which is why (apparently) sports teams wearing red will win more often than other colours like blue. So maybe our next kit should be red away...

Tell that to Chelsea...

I agree with susie anyway, and this has occurred to me before too. When you''re using your peripheral vision to find someone to pass to, surely brighter colours would make the job easier. I''m sure there''s a reason why most teams'' kits are bright colours.

Don''t get me wrong. I personally like the away kit, I just don''t think it''s that great for playing football in.

It is certainly better than the hideous Home Shirt. The fake addidas stripes

Lets hope we can get a decent shirt manufacturer next time, Kappa would be nice.

despite the fact that i do agree that other topics are worthy of more attention at this time, thanks for bringing this up susie b......i do agree with you completely.

i just dont understand the all green. i had the same reaction vs villa. to be honest, why we do we wear the away kit at all...do we clash with any premiership side?

all green? a mistake. i guess that''s why we don''t see many other teams use it.

i''m all for change despite the wearbility of the green with jeans.

Could be something in this.  When I worked on a drawing board instead of a computer. Some of our equipment was green, the reason given, that it was relaxing to the eye!

I was trying to think of something subjective and intelligent to say about our away kit......nadgers I can''t ,I think its a stinking piece of crap, what happened to red our true away colours,oh yes ,sold down the river of commercialism....British racing green belongs on motor cars

I totally agree. We always used to play in all-red as our change strip, and I think we should revert to that asap.

Yankee Canary - it''s basically white shirt and shorts with a broad green stripe coming down the right-hand side of the shirt as you would wear it (which continues over the shoulder and down the back), and whch is edged with a narrow yellow stripe.  The shorts also have the same broad green stripe with yellow edging stripe on front and back, on the same side as the broad stripe on the shirt.  Again the stripe continues onto the back of the shorts.  The shirt cuffs and collar are edged with narrow green then yellow stripes, as are the waistband and hem of the shorts.  The socks are white with narrow green and yellow stripes at the top and with NCFC written vertically down them in a rectangular box of yellow.  Now you need to have a go at drawing it so we can see how good your visualisation is!!!

I appreciate that some people might not give a damn what we are playing in for some away games so long as we are doing our best and picking up points, but I think the kit is gloomy (not helping right now!), dull and probably not helping the players or the viewing public very much.  However, if the majority think it''s best to leave the issue alone then I most certainly will.  Need some more opinions though, really!

susie, is there any way you could get your version of the kit posted on here?  sounds interesting!  my favourite away kit was the centenery season all red affair, although i also liked the all white one from a few seasons back too.  white or red for me, but i suppose anything other than blue would be fine!

susie I take back my earlier comment and apologise.  It seems a few people are concerned about this and now with some of the more scientific reasons why green is bad I think it is a valid problem, one that won''t be changed this season unfortunately.   I really like the sound of your kit design, you need to get that drawn up properly and send it to some manufacturers for them to add their flair to it.

In answer to someone that said why do we have to wear the away kit anyway as we never clash with another prem side?   I would think it is down to Lotus wanting it to be warn a certain number of times a year, plus all the fans that spalsh out on it would probably like to see it played in a few times.

It''s a good point suse.  I know in the past clubs have got annoyed with kits when they can''t see fellow players.  Indeed, if I recall correctly, Man Utd changed their away kit to their third strip at half time at the Dell a few years back.... As it clashed with the stewards!!

However, I would have thought that we would have done various research etc before committing ourselves to two years with the kit.  I agree it is very grass like.  But we''ve managed to score goals and win games in the 1st Div with it.  Maybe it''s the prem grass!

Grass isn''t in the air though. The only thing players have to worry about their kit clashing with is the one thing in line with their vision - the crowd...

If our players can''t pick out a team mate because of the away kit colour then the opposition defenders won''t see our probing runs behind them either. But unfortunately Villa didn''t seem to have this problem.

Kappa? Maybe we could top it off with a nice Burberry baseball cap too?

I''d love to draw my proposed away kit for everyone to laugh at (!) on here, but I lack the know-how to do it!  Unless someone can write an idiot''s guide for me, you''ll have to try visualising it from my description.  Sorry.

Our away kit is "lush", but the players can''t see each other.

We always played with a white away kit in the eighties, and it looked great.

Let''s get back to white with green trims - laaaverly.

As a leisure item, yes it''s nice.

As a football shirt, I agree with Suzie. Camouflage is predominantly green for a reason...

And I have to disagree with the poster slating the home shirt - it''s one of the best we''ve ever had...

I have to agree that the home kit this year is great, not quite as nice as the 1980 Admiral number mind, but pretty good. The away kit is good too, but I also think it looks a bit dull - I''m another one who prefers the red and white kits of the past - but only when necessary, which is almost never!
I haven''t heard the players say anything disparaging about it though, but if they did then it''d surely be changed very quickly. Don''t think the club would bother to wait until the end of the season - after all how long does it take designers and manufacturers to turn out a new number?

Maybe someone should ask the players what they think... Anyone know one?

Thanks Barclay in Chile.  I''ve been speaking to a few people about this today - people who aren''t posters on any sites - and, like me, although they like the shirt as a leisure item for fans most think that the dark colour not only blends in with the grass but also with the generally dark background that is the crowd.  Also, a colour therapist told me that green is a calming colour.  That being so, I think we need something that makes us stand out much more and sends subliminal messages to the opposition, like ''we are going to be in your faces for the next 90 minutes'', or something similar!  At least not ''we are here to make your afternoon a very pleasant one so sit back and enjoy...!''  Can''t wait to see if someone manages to put up their impression of my suggested kit on the other thread.

The other alternative is to wear a bright distinctive colour that wont clash with 99.9999% of other teams in this division.

Say, somthing predominantly bright yellow - maybe a bit of green trim!

Pink - like Juve''s away kit (and originally the home kit colour when they started way back)!
