We shouldn't hold our breath for any loan signings this week?....

Recommended Posts

I''m fairly sure that I''ve read the the maximum length of a loan signing is 93 days. Presumably any loan signing we would want to make would have to run up to and including a possible play off final. Counting 93 days back from that date of May 30th, is Feb 27th, I believe, a week tommorrow, after the Barnsley match.

Does anyone have a different understanding of this loan situation??

Yes someone mentioned that on here last week although he can''t afford to wait to get a defender in because if either Wardy or Whitbread get injured we have no cover.

Controversial, but I''d risk it and not get anyone in over the next week - thus making them available for the whole season and play-off''s.

We should have enough (hopefully) to get past the next two games with what we have already.

In an absolute emergency (ie. Ward/Whitbread getting injured before/during next two games), I''d play R.Martin at CB and have Korey Smith at RB. Not ideal, but it''d do for one game.

Aren''t the loan deals for Gill/Askou about to expire anyway? I think both will be in contention for the squad on Tuesday.

I also think we would have named 7 subs today, had it not been for the lateness of Lappin''s problem - which was presumably after they had travelled.

Usually there''s a ''reserve'' player, so perhaps not? What about Francomb coming onto the bench?

I''m sure i read Gill had been called back near enough the day after Barnett got injured.

If this is the case then i think Lambert will be preparing for maybe waiting and getting someone in for playoffs as well.

Therefore it wouldn''t surprise me if he doesn''t get anyone for that reason. Though i would feel a lot more comfortable if he did!

Well, Askou finished his suspension ahead of today''s game and didn''t even get in the squad. Considering by all accounts Jackett quite likes Askou I was a little surprised. He''ll be back with us now and I think I''d keep the squad as it is for a week and bring in Rob Edwards or whoever whenever we can keep him around for the play offs.

Hmm, I wouldn''t mind getting someone in on loan. Surely we could just extend it when and if needed?

Is it because it''s the "emergency loan" window that we can''t just get someone to the end of the season? Just seems a bit stupid that you can have season long loans but if you do it in January you can only have them for a certain amount of days.

This is the definitive answer...trouble is I CBA to read it all!. What we can , or cannot, do is in there somewhere. Look at clause 50 Temporary Loan Signings and 51 Standard, Emergency and Youth Loans.

Also there is a summary on the BBC website albeit from last year which says

Football League clubs can have a maximum of four players under 23 and a further four players over 23 during any season on a standard loan, though no more than two of the latter can be signed from a single club. These standard loans are all done and dusted before the transfer deadline and run from window to window.

- Players on standard loans, can not be recalled by their clubs during the loan period.

- However, Football League clubs can sign players on an emergency loan for a maximum of 93 days (minimum of 28 days).

- An emergency loan cannot happen until seven days until after each transfer window has closed and are not allowed after the fourth Thursday in November during the first half of the season until the window reopens and after the fourth Thursday in March until the end of the campaign.

- A maximum of 5 loan players (either standard or emergency) can be named in the first team matchday squad.

- There is no limit on the number of emergency loans

Happy reading! [:S]
