BroadstairsR 0 Posted February 21, 2011 With all this talk of getting a striker in on loan, even before Martin''s injury, does this mean that Jackson is now written off and is to be considered a bad buy. Or, as he is relatively young, is it just a matter of time before he is expected to come good. He was not cheap and he did start off well.
priceyrice 133 Posted February 21, 2011 No he isn''t written off i dont think, at least not in my eyes and i very much doubt Lambert''s either. He just hasn''t been performing when given the chance and with us being at such a vital part of the season now as it closes and it being so tight at the top we can''t gamble on Jackson doing the job. I think Chris Martin''s injury may prove that little extra incentive to bring in that striker if indeed Lambert needed any extra incentive
Alex Moss 2,167 Posted February 21, 2011 I still feel that he''s more than capable of doing a job here, he needs a goal to settle himself down. The Fernando Torres at Chelsea situation springs to mind... And before anyone starts, yes, i know Fernando Torres is something else - but it does illustrate the point i''m trying to make. Due to C.Martin''s injury, Wilbraham started against Leeds, I was at the game and thought he played well depsite not looking like he was going to score; I do however think tomorrow night is Jackson''s turn, against a team who is low in confidence and with many first teamers missing, Jackson needs to prove himself, grab a goal and start regaining some confidence
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted February 21, 2011 I think he has the rest of this season and part way through next to prove his worth. Iwain Roberts was a flop in his first season and look what he went on to do. If he does not make his mark before Christmas then i guess his time would be up. I do think he will come off in the end, he has shown flashes but not often enough at the moment
BroadstairsR 0 Posted February 23, 2011 Can Wilbraham and McnNmee also be included in the category of poor acquisitions, along with Jackson? As an exile, I cannot see these players very often, except on T.V. and have not made any games this season. I can therefore only go by comments made on this Board and the conclusion is that PL has not had much "luck" in his attempts at strengthening the forward line. It is this aspect of the team that is becoming our weak link, or so it seems. A quality loan signing now seems vital, and better scouting perhaps?

He has been involved in the majority of the goals when he is the pitch his only weakness at the minute is that he never tries to score himself but lay the ball off for others but this will change if the crowd stop screaming at him for any mistake.I will give you the benifit of doubt for Wilbraham but hr has done his job so far and hopfully soon he will get his goal. 87canary 0 Posted February 23, 2011 I think Wilbraham has been doing ok too. He''s been getting the ball - just doesn''t have a goal. He hasn''t looked as bad as most people make out.If you''re going by peoples comments on here - you might as well abandon all hope :P they''d lead you to believe we were in the relegation zone or something
smooth 114 Posted February 23, 2011 Jackson was brought in as offering something different to our first choice strikers, chris martin and grant holt.Wilby to cover for Grant holt. You can see with Wilby what he brings, tough and strong, but with no real threat to the goal and certainly will not ever replace grant holt in the first team (unless for mass injuries).Jackson has had chances, he does look a loss in our system and I wonder if that is the problem. Gillingham fans said although he had a good strike rate, he needed 3-4 good chances to convert 1. Well read into that what you will but I don''t think that is good enough and don''t think next season he will be a starter. This year he can be, and his chance is here with Martins'' injury. Prove in training you can work with our creative players and execute in games.Personally when the summer comes along we will need to pick up another striker to come in as a starter alongside Holt and challenge Martin for that position. Yes Iwan had an extra year, a lucky time to play for Norwich. We had no other options and very little money, Mike Sheron and other strikers have been shot off following a poor season. We are now in a position that you have to bring in players that are better than our first 11 and not so much squad players. Wilby is a squad player, hence the 18month contract and his role to back up Holt. Our defence has been shaken up this year with all our centre backs replacing our centre backs from last year. Midfield again is very different with only Wes in that place and I think we can agree we have upgraded that area within the starting 11.Upfront however oli johnson, simeon jackson have not put the other two front players under pressure and prove they are better than what we had last year. Which does show that both Holt and Martin have stepped up, but also that next summer we will need a new striker if we believe this club needs to keep moving forward. Martin has been unlucky and his form has dipped, thereh as been opportunities for both wilby and jackson to prove their worth and jackson more so.But so far he hasn''t and afraid in football where we will expect improvement year on year on the first 11 in personnel terms. He may be lost next season.I expect a move for a forward in the loan market and then in the summer we will move for a striker.
Salopian 1 Posted February 23, 2011 I feel that he has less of an all-round game than Martin - Martin is taller and canhead the ball, and is a better passer and set-piece exponent. We may be yet to see Jackson''s best, and perhaps we and he have not learned how to use his pace, but so far I think that he has been disappointing, certainly in one-on-one situations with the keeper.
