Wilbraham

Recommended Posts

He''s just a lower league journeyman and we''re never going to get promoted with him in the starting 11. Unfortunatly he''s most likely to not score all season and shouldn''t be anywhere near a team that wants to have a serious chance of promotion.

The worst striker I have ever seen in a yellow and green shirt... worse than Adrian Coote, Dean Coney and Mike Sheron.

I don''t understand how Jackson isn''t starting, at least he can finish and will give the defenders something different to think about. I know he hasn''t performed aswell as expected so far but you would have confidence in him finishing a chance, not like Wilbraham.

No N&C he is not the new scapegoat, he is utter tripe.

He brings nothing to the team whatsoever as far as I can see; his first touch is so poor I doubt that he could trap a bag of cement, he is slow and ponderous, doesn''t win what he should in the air, quite happy to point other players in the general direction of space but doesn''t make the runs there himself.

This is without question the worst signing of Lambert (and I include Jackson in that).  If he had £100,000 burning a hole in his pocket that bad, he could have given it to me to take down the casino.  More chance of a return on that investment than Wilbraham.

What we need is an out and out goalscorer, someone to play alongside Holt, feeding off his knock-downs and general play.  Before the game last night I thought it could be Jackson''s chance to shine if started, but its quite obvious Lambert has no faith in him.

We need a striker and quick, before all our good work is undone.

To be fair Willbrahams needs games to get used to the pace of the championship, however last night was crying out for jackson due to the high line that doncaster were playing.

Went to leeds at the weekend unfortunately in the Kop end and we lacked pace from the word go, someone to run the channels whose not going to be an aerial threat.

If you want hard work and a handful for defenders then willbrahams is your man but last night we needed jackson on to get behind them. Because play was squeezed so much Wes had no space to operate, all had a knock on effect.

On reflection the point isnt bad for us as leicester lost and lets be realistic playoffs is our realistic aim, automatic is possible but got to keep widening that gap between us and the chasing pack I.E. leicester/hull/burnley.

I aint no Paul Lambert by the way!

I thought his general hold up play was good last night but a striker needs more than that. You only have to look at his scoring record to tell that he was never going to be the answer. Players don''t suddenly become lethal in front of goal at the end of a very ordinary career. He was tidy and gave 100% effort, you shouldn''t expect much more from a £80k 31 year old.

He was brought in to do a job and that is exactly what he is doing. Lambert didn''t bring him in as a goalscorer but as a target man and to hold play up. When Jackson was playing we kept losing possession.

The key to Jackson is Surman who has a great eye for a pass.

Ok i admit he''s not the best player we''ve ever had but do i really have to put up with the tw@ats around me constantly shouting abuse at him for the whole 90mins EVERYTIME he touches the ball! Grrrrrrrr!

To be objective i think he was bought as a cheap understudy for Holt. He can hold the ball up ok and bring in other players but he will not score many and indeed never has even at league 1 level

Don''t rate him but what can you do we don''t have mega bucks. Realistically who could we get in who is better? The only half decent striker i can think we would have a chance of getting would be Clinton Morrison from Sheff Wed they need the money from the loan fee and i''m sure he''d want to play a higher level than division 3. Knows where the goal is at least!

Indeed. In order to leave Lambert with enough money from his January allocation to make a decent bid for Bennett. But that fell through, and in the meantime Lambert seems to have decided that neither Jackson nor Martin (possibly with him a temporary thing because of the court case) were top-six Championship level. Hence Wilbraham starting matches instead of being an understudy. And it sounds as if the result is too much of one kind of player.

he is a target man rather than a finisher. He needs a little man with him, jackson mybe. Holt wasn''t good last night and wilby madew up for it winning every header that he could. Holt and wilb yare too similar a player to start together. Maybe last 10 when we are just pumping the ball into the box is best for them 2.

He was never lively to score many goals at all but the manager would have known that and obviously signed him for his other qualities. And we are now starting to see that he makes a lot of good wins in the air and his hold up play his pretty decent. He reminds me a bit of Chris Brown - a decent enough player but not a goalscorer.

I actually thought he was one of our better players last night and some of his colleagues didn''t make the most of the knock downs and flicks he was winning.

We need someone better than him but I''ll back him as long as I think he''s trying his best for NCFC.

Holt wasnt good last night? he was voted man of the match and i completely agree. he ran his socks off and scored a goal what more can we expect?

On topic of Wilbraham I thought his hold up play was good he won a lot of headers but in front of goal he is atrocious!

i think Lambert took a gamble on Wilbraham, it hasnt worked. Sometimes they go for you and come in and score a few some times they dont.who is that chap we had on loan at the end of last season? from preston wasnt it? he scored a few get him back!

Wilbraham was bought as cheap back for Holt if he ever got injured (or if he wasn''t then he should have been) and were he sitting on the bench every week and maybe coming on for the last 20 minutes when we need to go more direct then that would be fine. The problem is that with Martin now injured and none of our other strikers doing anywhing he''s suddenly been elevated to the starting 11 on a regular basis. Foe me he shouldnt be starting and I don''t understand why we did not go with jackson last night. He tries, and he wins some flick ons and holds it up ok but he just doesn;t ever look like scoring. A promotion chasing side needs better options.

agree with this. I was also at Leeds away and he was one of our better players; he is obviously not a natural goalscorer but Lambert knew this, so why slate the player, it isn''t like alot of money was spent on a natural goal scorer who now can''t hit the back of the net; he came at a cheap price with a reputation of not scoring too many, Lambert knew what he was getting

Is it just a coincedence that none of our other strikers can score when they play with Holt ? If Holt is spending his time all over the pitch ( he turned up at right back at one point ) then the other striker is effectively playing up front on his own. I''m not saying whats right or wrong, just an observation. If Holt spent a bit more time playing down the middle then he could get a relationsip going with whoever his partner is.

This may sound ridiculous, but I''d rather Cureton than Wilby I thiunk. He can finish and has done it in this League (Top scorer of the Championship in a Colchester team that went down I believe), he has scored a few this year and has that all important experience. I know people will laugh at me for saying this, but I''m sure he would have scored in atleast one of the games Wilbraham has played in and failed to find the net

He got the lowest score in the EDP players ratings 5 but then again most of the others got 6 other than Holt 8, Lansbury & Wes 7

Well the ratings are clearly crap then as i thought Holt was ok and took his goal very well but perhaps not at his best, ditto for Wes and lansbury did nothing at all. Best player was Whitbread (again).

Wilbraham would not get on the bench at any of the other top 6 sides , if we keep starting with him and do not sort out the 2nd striker position we will drop out of the top 6 sooner rather than later.
