Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Just now watching Stoke City''s exciting brand of football, and was wondering would Rory Delap get into any other premiership team or come to think of it even the top 10 teams in the championship ? An average footballer with a long throw. Maybe im being bias as i hate Stoke and Tony Pulis.
jed exodous 0 Posted February 28, 2011 Probably not, generally a poor player, just with an unusual talent for using the ball more accurately with his hands than his feet... Its a useful weapon to have, just thinking though, which would you prefer, Stokes hoof ball and physical play and stability in the premier league, or be a team that tries to play passing football but is up and down between the champ and the prem? Bolton used to play in a smilar style and that was their most successful period for a long long time. Bolton and Stoke reached heights that they probably never will surpass playing ugly football, so there is an argument for it and i must admit, i do like to watch some of the big boys getting bullied... Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 I think the hoofball long throw etc is good for a plan b when you chasing a game or against a team like Arsenal, but its Stokes only plan. They are at home to West Brom you would think with players like Etherington and Pennant they could play some decent stuff. They have some technically good players like Glenn Whelan who i thinks quality who cant get in the team ahead of Delap.
LeJuge 0 Posted February 28, 2011 Delap is mainly used as a "super-sub". He is a one trick pony, but ultimately his long throw does win points for them. I can see no difference in bringing Delap on for the final 10 minutes than Lambert bringing say McNamee on for 10 minutes to get a few more balls in the box, same tactic if you ask me! jed exodous 0 Posted February 28, 2011 I agree, they have players who should be in ahead of Delap. Stoke dont get as many long throws as they used to, teams would rather concede a corner and also tend to be a bit more clever when clearing the ball.
Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Well no because Delap isn''t usually a sub, more of a starter than sub. Im not saying theres anything wrong with a long throw and saying as a player he''s crap, and that technically good footballers can''t get in ahead of him. king canary 8,757 Posted February 28, 2011 Stoke summed up what they are all about in January. Sell Gudjohnson and Tuncay the only two players with any real finesse and sign John Carew, a big fat lump.
Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Same when they signed Walters from you know who, he didn''t have a very good goal scoring record there but hey he''s 6ft or more so they signed him, thats why Sidibe''s still there and he''s an awful player.

Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Dijmi Traore is a champions league winner doesn''t mean he''s any good. And winning alot of caps for Norway is no big deal, Stefan Iversen has and still does and he plays for Crystal Palace.
Lambert is King 0 Posted February 28, 2011 Come to mention he scores goals as well, and like it or not Stoke are probably the 10th best team in this country over the last 3 years. We might not like the way they play but did you think we were fantastic playing football in the premiership and being rewarded with relegation
Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Hang on this thread wasn''t about how Stoke played football, theres nothing wrong with a long throw in, obviously a good tactic, i was saying he''s a crap footballer.

Move Klose 303 Posted February 28, 2011 Vela was offside, oh well couldn''t have happened against a nicer team. I bet Stoke hoof it long now looking for another goal, oh yeah they''ve been doing that since the 1st minute.

Says it all doesn''t it!!! I agree, it''s excellent that he could make it into possibly 2 or 3 teams (at the most) in the top 10 in League One. He wasn''t even a first team regular at MK this season!
