Thoughts froms Millwall game...

Recommended Posts

Just watched the highlights from the Milwall game. So good to see all the players celebrating when we score. We really have an unbeleivable team spirit. Its so good to see the fist pumping by everyone when we score and the togetherness and the whole team is genuinely delighted for the scorer, it doesn''t matter who it is. Just wait til Lappin finally notches, it will be mental.

A few other points from the game.

- Where was the defence when they scored? We looked all at sea and they caught us with a good counter by the look of it.

- Lappin and Holt need to practice volleys.

- Lansbury''s got a bloody good free kick on him.

- Willy doesn''t look like he''ll score us a lot of goals, but to be fair to him, hes done a decent job for us. Hes winning headers and causing defenders a real headache. I''m sure all of strikers will find some form soon.

We really have a great chance of promotion this season.

Jed, for the Millwall goal Tierney lost his runner - looked short of pace - and cut inside for some reason. Seeing this, Barnett ran out to prevent the cross and left an opponent free in the middle.

You can see on the highlights that Barnett tells Tierney to cover the centre of the pitch and that allows him to go out to meet the guy crossing the ball. The whole defence seem to be absent but Tierney did look a little lacking in pace (or energy) to get back quick enough, but hasn''t he just come back from a 6 week injury or something?

He has indeed. Tierney mentioned to CW that he''d only just recovered from an injury.

Lappin was our furthest forward player with Tierney on half way which left us short at the back. Tierney would never have stopped the goal regardless of Barnett indicating him to mark up.

Having said that, I thought Tierney went missing a few times during the game, but I guess it will take him a while to pick up the pace due to lack of practice/injury.

Millwall were very quick on the break, arguably at least as quick as us at our best.

So there is always the danger that if we press to score a goal we may leave ourselves exposed to sucha team. On another occasion the ball flashed narrowly past our post. This suggests that we cannot really afford to have Lappin, Crofts and Lansbury all at the other nend, especially when we have Tierney and Ward not really at match speed and fitness.

I suspect that if they had not lost Morison so early we might have paid for our attacking pressure.
