Shaun Tilly Lace 0 Posted February 4, 2011 Is Carroll really better than Sutton? I doubt it.We received about £5 million from Blackburn for Sutton, which even allowing for inflation is a derisory amount. Would we get over £25 million for him if he was playing today? Maybe. It would have been a nice tidy sum of money. Our debt would be wiped out in one fell swoop. All hypothetical I know, but interesting to muse over. Power Hamster 0 Posted February 4, 2011 I think the two fees are roughly equivalent, bearing in mind that football inflation has been way above the general inflation rate ever since Sky started pouring money in, and since mega-rich people started deciding that owning a football club was a fun thing to do. My opinion is that no footballer was worth £5m in 1994, and no footballer is worth £35m today. But there will always be someone with more money than sense, and so long as we have a free market in players then prices will always get pushed up to stupid levels.
