Peter 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Just to point out City now have the worst defensive record in the League 46 conceded (WBA 44).What is the problem other than our current defenders being useless is the fact there is no organization, Fleming as the senior representative should be making clear what everyone''s responsibilities are, which he singularly fails to do, time and time again he has been caught out of position or put in half hearted challenges (Liverpool an e.g.).Saturday Jonsson should have picked up Quedrue twice, but if Drury had not been tying his bootlaces at the time of the corner for their third goal he may have been better prepared for the ball that went through his legs. For free kick why was no one on the post? and what were the two yellow shirts doing behind the defensive wall ?Last year Malky did the organising this year no one takes responsibility, Charlton should replace Fleming as soon as fit unless we get a loanee to do that job.Drury again poor defensively he does need protection on left flank, certainly Huckerby cannot do that and is Brennan up to the job. ZLF 261 Posted January 24, 2005 I agree with a lot of what you say. Our defence struggles because1 We havent got the quality of player. Eddy & Flem are 100% hard workers but in terms of ability are out of their depth. They give their all but effort isnt enough in this league. Drury is better but his confidence has gone and its is showing.2 Defensive support is need from midfield to prevent the crosses - Jonson works hard on one flank at teh expense of attacking play, and Brennan looked OK on Sat. Hux exposes the left too much, and Mullers is too lightweight in the middle.3. A lack of leadership is so apparent to me - the heads went down after the equaliser and Francis and Hux made their views on the collective defending apparent - 3 out of the back four contributed to that goal. Much of this can be addressed - but can we sign anyone now and does worthy even think we have a problem? Coaching an imnprovement seems out as we are as bad now 5 months of trying.Helveg and Charlie will help as they can defend, but will they get in the line up, and Shacks couldnt be any worse so we do have options once all fit, but the problems seem so deep routed a new player to command the back line is the only way ahead, but can we find one??? The ones I like (Laville, Jagielka, Lescott, Richards, Gabbidon, Henchoz) would all cost us cash - do we have it to try and save our season? OTBC
shropshire canary 0 Posted January 24, 2005 I''d like to hope that Sat proves to al lconcerned that when we attack we can now score goals - Ashton oozes confidence in that respect which can be infectious. We have to defend better and that investment now could be the make or break one for this season, as it is still do-able.Have we the ambition or is prudence in control again now?No criticism here btw, just a question.
