Salopian 1 Posted February 15, 2011 On Saturday we saw our two very creative midfielders Surman and Hooly lay on two goal chances which even our goal shy strikers could not miss.My feeling is that our two magicians should play every game as long as they are fit and in form. On Saturday they and others answered emphatically the question of whether we could play them together. They are capabl;e of creating havoc and although they may not be the most physical their presence will nullify the midfield of other teams by the need to try to mark them.Fox is showing not only a confidence in accurate passing, but also firm tackling. He is not the lightweight which some of us had assumed. Crofts is what he is, tough, goal scoring and omnipresent.A four man midfield thus more or less selects itself. So what of Lansbury, and even Korey? I think that Lansbury has the edge and I would consider hima good first reserve to any of the four.So is he destined for the bench? In the absence of injuries or suspensions, where in is own way he could replace any of the four, could we use him in any other way?Could he be an impact substitute? Could he play up front with Holt, or just behind. He has found his scoring boots in the last two games, and seems to have a good finish. With Gill and T-J seemingly out of the reckoning and Hughes probably off as well, Lappin could stay as a wide left substitute in line behind the two magicians. There remains Adeyemi, whose latent talent may have developed with regular football. Macnamee may be off, and if so do we need to replace him?I have blogged before about our creativity from the midfield and our poor conversion rate by strikers. I feel that if the strikers can convert a few more chances and the midifeld stay fit, we could go on to a very high place come May. (Sadly, probably without Barnett, we may concede a few more goals.) Liam 0 Posted February 15, 2011 With 2 goals in 3 games he will be one of the first names on the team sheet for saturday.

a1canary 0 Posted February 15, 2011 I agree - our flanks are seriously vulnerable and at the moment we are getting results simply by outgunning our opponents. If we try that against one of the few sides that has outscored us this season, we could be in trouble. But i have a feeling Lambert being Lambert could go all out even against Leeds with Lansbury and Surman backing up the Holy Trinity and just go at them with all guns blazing! Mouthwatering prospect i have to admit, regardless of the dangers.Hold on to your hats for this one people!! (Cue 0-0!)
Baracouda 47 Posted February 15, 2011 I would quite like to see an attacking 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 v Leeds and for other top of table matches. The midfield 5. Crofts FoxLansbury, Wes, Surmon.
Bill 1,788 Posted February 15, 2011 "we saw our two very creative midfielders Surman and Hooly lay on two goal chances which even our goal shy strikers could not miss"I didn''t realise that Lansbury was a striker - goal shy or not. However the idea appears to be .....Drop Lansbury, to play Surnam and Hoolahan. Who can set up goals. For Lansbury to score. When he comes on as an impact sub, it appears. Hopefully not replacing Surnam or Hoolahan, as that would rather scupper this well thought out plan.
