The Gray and Keys Comments

Recommended Posts

Daft behaviour by these two and well put in context by a female in refereeing (didn''t catch the name) who commented like a professional within the game and for me elevated the status of women in the game.

On the other hand, out come all the PC brigade, Karen Brady and a host of feminists who simply make one wonder whether  similar derogatory remarks made by a female against a male in the game would meet with such outrage and response. All this does is single out women as needing some sort of special treatment and sets back the cause of women in the game.

All officials make mistakes and there is no reason why women cannot officiate as well as men. It could be argued that women have greater peripheral vision.

When criticising anyone: age, gender, background, history, ability etc always creep into it because of human nature; this is how comedians earn their trade and such comments are often made in the name of ''jest''. Gray and Keys appear like a couple of sniggering schoolboys. Football has learned to deal with racism so it will do no harm to learn about sexism. But, in order to do so those with certain attitudes need to be challenged and caused to reflect. They then deserve a chance to learn without disproportionate political correctness. To do otherwise will provoke an opposite reaction; cloud the issue and set back the cause.

Well I think this whole problem has been created by foolish women who want to play and officiate at football. Fooball is a mans game to be played and officiated by men. Why oh why do modern women feel they have to  in some way prove themseves by insisting on playing mens  games. They do look ridiculous when they play, have  you ever seen so called ladies playing rugby, what nonsence it all is. As for being an official, utter tripe, let the  men do it and we girls can watch and enjoy.

Pft, sexism is a joke. This is almost as boring as Political correctness !!Basically anything you say will insult someone so as long as its not hatefull ( eg Racist behaviour ) then who cares !But frankly ( to go back to racism ) what REALLY anoys me is why "the N word" is so foul yet people of african decent etc can throw it around as they please. Ive been called a Honkey before ( google it ) and had to take it. If I had responded in kind I would have been jailed !!

The reason that it is okay for black people to use the N word is because it was used as a derogatory term for so many years and by using it themselves they are claiming the word for themselves and removing some of the venom and hate from its use. Canary Girl, I take it you are joking?

If Keys and Gray were commenting on her actual performance after a game and critising for making an incorrect decision (without bringing her sex into it) then there would have been no problem. But to damn her before a ball has been kicked or decision made is plainly unacceptable.

The comments about Karen Brady just add to the proof of their moronic thinking. It reminds me of the episode of the IT Crowd where Matt Berry''s character is accused of sexism and says "look here sugartits, I''m not sexist" or something along those lines.

The BBC and Guardian will of course go big on this and aim for the jugular and blow some of these comments out of proportion; but if it had of been a black or asian linesman and they made similar comments you can bet they would have been marched out of the door already. Lines(wo)men and refs have a tough enough job already, without these fools attacking them for no reason. But then what else do you expect from Andy "Messi wouldn''t cut it against Stoke on a wet Wednesday" Gray and his chuckling sidekick.

Oh grow up would you!

I hate people who have never suffered discrimination in their life moaning about perceived injustices. The "N word" in itself isn''t discrimination, it is the hate that goes along with it. Words have no power without the meaning behind them, and for a rapper to say a word in a song is completely different from a someone wear a white hood and threatening your life saying it, or someone saying it with pure hatred in their eyes. If you are white, middle class and British you will almost certain never suffer at the hands of discrimination in this country, other will say you will and talk about ridiculous examples but in truth it will never happen to you and consider yourself lucky for that.

I don''t think canarygirl is joking and that is the narrow minded view which unfortunately will get her nowhere in life.

Girls/Women are fully entitled to play football and officiate it...you can ask the 30 girls we have signed on to the football team I help run.

Karen Brady complaining about sexism.  What a joke!  She''s spent most of her life working for a couple of pornographers and once famously posed for photos in the Birmingham Post wearing nothing but a Birmingham City shirt.

This thread could become interesting. The one about Amy Rayner a few years ago certainly was.

Davo makes some good points and I would imagine Richard Keys and Andy Gray are in a fair bit of bother because a comparison to Ron Atkinson''s embarassing moment can certainly be made.

Watching it on TV at the time I thought she made some good calls that some of our linesmen could learn from.

Wait until you get to a certain age and regardless of your background you will probably suffer age discrimination. Everybody at some stage suffers some sort of discrimination and to single out the white, middle class British in the way that you do is discrimination in itself, and insulting. Nobody is exempt.

I have asked my wife my sister and my mother toady and none

of them understand the offside rule.

Clear and undeniable proof that my poll of 3 proves without doubt woman don''t

understand the offside rule.

[:S]As an aside, there was once a joke that did the rounds to explain the off-side rule in the context of buying the last pair of shoes in a shoe shop.Alternatively, there''s salt and pepper, as used in ''Bend it like Beckham''.I get the off-side rule. It''s trying to explain it that''s the tricky part lol

The comments are absolutely horrible!

Even if they thought that their microphones were off, they still shouldn''t be saying stuff like that.

Also, the lineswoman made the completely correct decision anyway!

It is utter rubbish, I guess it was a slow news day. For Christ''s sake I hear a lot worse than that day in day out, I also say similar stuff myself, mainly in jest, but men and women are different. It''s like the joke about women parking, well there is plenty of scientific evidence to support why this is the case. I don''t throw a hissy fit if a women jokes / comments about how men can''t put the toilet seat down! men get stereotyped all the bloody time but do we moan about it? remember the beer advert where the guys licks the floor and toilet seat following a trail of beer (I think the was a big oral s** innuendo implied)? how derogatory was that to the average man? imagine a similar advert for women? it wouldn''t exist would it?

What is wrong with this country, these comments occur all of the time, and in this case it was off air. Do we need to sensor everything we say? I''d be locked up, so would most of us I would imagine. So in this country we worry about a pretty innocuos comment whilst in countries like Italy their president can''t keep his pants on and they don''t seem to care, maybe we should get a little more perspective on this sort of news story .

.....plus, let''s be realistic here, she will get a load of abuse worse than that, just like every linesman in the country week in / week out. So it''s fine to call a male linesman a effing C word but make a joke about a woman not understanding the offside rule makes you some sort of dinosaur.

If their mics had been off it would still be their opinion.

But aren''t we all guilty of say one thing in public and another in private.

My earlier comment we''re obviously tongue in cheek but am I any different from

any other man. No I think I know more about football and understand the game

better than most if not all woman. Sexist or stupid. Truth is who cares. Hardly

crime of the century.

Don''t forget most women don''t give two shinny $hites about the offside rule.

The woman in question clearly does, or at least the FA thinks she does. However

the FA obviously think all it''s officals do. Yet there parentage and

credentials are called in to question every other week by thoudsands. Is that

right?

Come on the worlds gone mad hasn''t it. We''ll be giving them the vote before

long.

I''ve no problem with women officials but only in women''s football. I really dont understand why they should be involved in the mens game.

Football ,as we watch it ,unike most other workplaces Isn''t subject to equality as the rules are that it is a mens code of the game...however you want to put it ,the game we watch every weekend is a ''mans game''  therefore the people partcipating in it should be male only??

One can only assume she has chosen to take this path of officiating for financial reasons as presumably officiating in mens football pays higher than in the womens game, but she would surely get to the top of her profession quicker by sticking to womens football.

How would we be reviewing that now ????And your spot on Marty, if the worst she is going to get as a footy official is the age old women and offside joke then she is laughing !!!Frankly ( its not right no !! before someone whines ) she is going to get far more abuse because shes a female lino than if she was a male lino. And im sure the young pettle would not be doing it if she could not handle it !!All power and respect to her  !! If she continues to make calls like the one the other day then we need 5 more of her and a few of her ref mates  to boot. And come on boys, Id love to have some boobs bouncing up and down during the game even if its in a ref / lino shirt. Also how long until a player says " distracted by the lineswoman" as an exuse for missing a sitter ! :)

These comments have been blown way out of context, what was said was a joke between two mates and thats it. Blimey some of the stuff i''ve heard and said is far worse than this but it''s called being tongue in cheek. And before anone says it might have upset the lino or whatever, what they said was a joke between themselves. Get over it.
