Will the club ever look at a fan's player recommendation?

Recommended Posts

Been watching a lot of the Asian Cup games currently underway, and one young player really stood out for me in the tournament. No not an Australian, even though our old boy David Carney played OK and even scored in the last match. They are even talking about Theoklitorus potentially being a Aussie National keeper in the future. He has had a blinder with Brisbane Roar this year keeping a record clean sheets!

This player plays for an un-heard-of club team, and a country most people don''t associate with good football. He is apparently desparate to get a move to Europe. Labelled as a defensive midfielder, but can also play centre back, and is blessed with a surprising amount of skill. He reminded me of a Hoolahan type on the ball, but bigger and right footed. Confident on the ball, and skillfull enough to beat players with ease. When he goes forward there is always the expectation that something good will happen, similar to the way Hux used to lift the crowd when he got on one of his runs. This player has scored quite a few goals as well.

I would love the club to at least take a look at some recorded games, as I believe he is a real superstar in the making. Who to mail too? and what are the chances of anyone taking it seriously?

Which player are you talking about? I was in Qatar for the Asian Cup as a a reporter and can''t think who you can mean.

The main problem would be work permit, unless he is South Korean, Australian or Japanese he wouldn''t be able to obtain a permission to play in England.

I doubt the club would take recommendations from fans, but you could probably just send a message to David McNally on Twitter, at least you know he would see it.

I have sent you an email with the players name. I obviously don''t want him bigged up on a public forum.

I agree the work permit could be a problem, but make the move now, and something could be sorted out well before the season''s over.

I agree. Email Mcnally. Alternatively send him a message on twitter and ask him if the club would be prepared to listen to a sensible suggestion.

I''m sorry but its really not obvious. What exactly do you think will happen if you name a player you''ve watched on TV competing in an international tournament?

I don''t realistically expect anything to happen. But why not expand the scouting network to the biggest group of all, the fans! Don''t know how this can sensibly work, but I do expect this player to be recognised as a top player in a top division within two or three years.

When Christiano Ronaldo was first discovered, did anyone say that was ridiculous that he could potentially be the world''s greatest player? All I want is for one of the scouting team to take a 5 minute look. If they dismiss it, then fine, at least I can rest easy that he did not pass by NCFC''s radar.

1. I would say a high percentage of our fans know nothing about technical ability of a football player, i.e. what a club looks for in a player. Do you not think that our club is sent video upon video of prospective players by agents, the majority discarded.2. Im not questioning your ability to understand a good player from a bad player but it takes a coach/scout working within a club to understand if a possible player would fit into the day to day training and the team istself.3. Ronaldo was tipped at an early age to be potentially World Class why do you think Manchester United bought him?

Got your email, cheers.

I agree, he is a very talented player and a rising star in that part of the world. But work permit would be impossible for an English club (especially on in the Championship). I imagine scouts from some top clubs spotted him and are working on a summer move.

If it''s who I think it is, Arsenal were linked with him a couple of years ago... and one of their major shareholders is from the same country. Are we talking about the same player?

What harm does it do to send them a quick email. You never know, they might take a look and think its worth pursuing!

Excellent detective work! I didn''t know Arsenal had previously shown in interest. I bet they''ll be back soon!
Asian markets are ever-expanding for the big European leagues, and the Premiership in particular - plenty of big clubs will have had scouts at the Asian Cup, and I''d be very surprised if he doesn''t end up signing for a big club in the summer. As for the work permit issue, isn''t there some kind of waiver clause for players that you can prove are of ''exceptional talent''? In the current transfer climate, expect Man City to bid about £125m for him in June... [;)]
Sorry in advance for going off topic.Bethnal, I''d be interested to know your take on the quality of the Asian Cup this year.I watched quite a bit of it (gutted by the final!), and thought some of the group games were pretty poor when it came to the quality of players. (some of the first-touches of these international players looked awful!)There appears to be a massive gap between the top (Australia, Japan, South Korea) and the rest.

Well if they had taken note of my player recommendations over the years, then we would have surely been crowned European Champions at least three times by now?!! [;)]

I''m sorry but you really seem to have a very inflated opinion of your own importance. Why not set yourself up as a freelance scout.

I think you meant "pompous". I believe you may be living in some sort of dream world if you are taking this seriously.

Good for you Ink.

Sometimes the negativity on here beggars belief.

More like reality I would say.
