Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I''ve just been told the the Chief Exec will be on air shortly ( 2.15 )Presumably this is in response to yesterday''s shannanigans at Carrow Road so could be interesting to hear all - or nothing - being revealed

He''s not happy that Burnley put it on their website, says it was very unprofessional.

For canary girl

Radio man said why didnt he just put it to bed at 9am, McNaally says Lambert just wanted to concentrate on the F A Cup game and had already said he was happy with the club''s statement so there was nothing else to say.

Says he wasn''t out to get a pay rise, he''s not that sort of person, couldn''t believe the amount of rumours that were being printed.

We have money to spend in January and that hasn''t changed from yesterday.

We value Lambert and will fight to keep him at this wonderfull club.

We won''t be letting any players leave.

We are the envy of loads of clubs having Lambert

Re Wes - Lambert will have something to say after the game.

For now we''re concentrating on the game.

CA over and out [:)]

He just said the transfer budget for this January hasn''t changed since what was agreed in the last calender year. And if any new contracts were drawn up for Lambert then we, the fans, would know.

Brief highlights of interviewHe was called in late on Thursday after e-mail from Burnley requesting to speak to PL.  He was trying to notify directors and PL about this when Burnley put out thier web-site message.   He was extremely bemused about the Burnley web-site statement - unprofessional.  Briefed PL prior to press conference on Friday morning.  Seemingly all happy with what was said.  However given the internet hyperbole, PL himself decided to put out a statement.  No push from DM.  There was no further discussions during the day about PL contract.   No players going anywhere.  Not millions in the player pot but enough for what PL wants.  Club would fight to prevent even Barcelona coming for PL.  Hopefuly something to say about Wes''s contract after the game.

I can almost see McNally''s smile from over the radio when speaking about how "Paul Lambert will have a few words to say about Hoolahan after the game today".

McNally''s key inputs:

  • He became aware of the Burnley interest about 9.30 pm on Thursday
  • It was then necessary to discuss the club''s position with PL
  • McNally was advised by Joe Ferrari that Burnley had decided to publish their interest on their website which McNally said was not only unusual but unprofessional
  • Mac then discussed the situation with PL before Friday morning press conference
  • When asked the key questions about whether PL was given a new or improved contract or whether PL was promised a greater amount of transfer funds as a result of this episode, McNally answered "No" in both instances.

Having listened to the interview and assuming that McNally is telling the truth, which I believe, then it would appear that this was just one total PR disaster. Amazing considering how well things have been handled by these people in the past. I hope that they learn from this experience.

He sounded like the whole thing was a storm in a teacup, mainly precipitated by Burnley being a bunch of numpties. He did give the impression, though, that it might have been different if a Prem club (or the like - he mentioned Barcelona!) had come in for him. But we all knew that already.Once again, very impressive. What a set-up the club''s got now!

The club did nothing wrong in any of this, just had to deal with Burnle trying unstable us a little bit, which was obvious when they posted their statement late in the evening hoping we wouldnt respond letting it boil overnight. Club responded brilliantly by denying it straight away, lambert did what he thought was best and denied it to (by agreeing with the club) and then focusing on the game. Think there may have been surprise into the amount of press coverage over this rumour but that''s because lambert such hot property at the moment. Not much to learn from this expeirence i would say for the club, the hype was coming on here more than anywhere else

On the contrary, he said that even if Barcelona came in for Lambert the club''s response would be just the same, in that they would fight tooth and nail to hold onto him.

[/quote]With respect, yes, he said the reaction would be the same, but the implication was they wouldn''t necessarily expect to succeed. I can''t remember his exact words, but it ended with "certainly not a small club like Burnley".They''re now playing the theme from ''Psycho'' while commenting on yesterday''s events. Inspired!
