Lappin signs new contract

Recommended Posts

I am confused from this piece of news.

I am not entirely convinced by this as can''t see him getting a look in if we get promoted.  He''s okay for championship but the contract will probably make him unmarketable because of EPL bonus tie-ins.  Thus I can see him being happy to see out his contract whatever (remember he did hang around for nigh on 18 months without much of a first team look-in).  From a bean counters point of view the value of his contract should be written-off now.

Might make the other players try harder for now to secure a similar contract though.  Is it a motivational tool?  Oh to have a look at the finer points of the contract.
Disagree with a bit of this apart from the likelihodd of action should we get promoted. Can''t fault him, he''s limited as a footballer, yes, but is very versitile and one always needs cover. Who can say where we will be at the end of this season, or indeed in 16 months? Another 2 fingers to Glenn Roeder - I could never understand the vitriol aimed at him...until he became our manager.

Glad to work it, he works bloody hard! Against Orient, the effort he was putting in within the last 20 minutes or so to get a goal was brilliant, first to everything, tracking back and rushing forward!

Glad he is getting his reward and happiness after putting up with being treated like crap! All he needs now is a goal [:P]

Considering he wasn''t initially in Lambert''s plans for this season''s starting eleven, Lappin has made an enormous contribution covering for Surman and Drury at left midfield and left back respectively.I remember the days when he used to score occasionally too!

"I hope Glenda Roeder hears about this. Interesting to see Glanda hasn''t appeared to have a job since he left"

Ah, but that means he is a good manager if he''s not worked for two years - ask the binners !

As to Lappin the club have only offered him a new contract because Burnley made an official approach for, just the same as with Hoolahan.

You watch what happens when ITV asks the club for permission to speak to Stephen Fry, the club will deny everything. Then next thing you know he''ll have another comfy cushion and and be wearing a new wooly hat at the next home game.

I''m really pleased for Simon Lappin after the torrid time he endured a couple of years ago. A well deserved new contract.

All we need is a goal, preferably at the River End.

Great news as he''s always been one of the unsung heroes for me.Out of interest, when was his last goal in the league?i remember a 25 yd beauty in the 5-2(?) league cup game against barnet a couple of years ago..  but in the league? it wasnt that freekick away at Luton was it - cos that was years ago?!

People who think that Lappin was suffering a horrific and awful time, come on, he was still earning his money, a good amoun of money. Not saying that he didn''t miss playing, but it''s hardly anightmare scenario is it? Perspective please.

Saying that, not a bad player to have around the club, not the best my any stretch and is very limited, but he is a decent squad player who put his body on the line and gets the players pumped up, he runs around and tries his hardest, although, so they bloody well should.

Lets get a few more tired up now please.

Dagerous game to play, with all the "cheeky quids" ive bet on Lappin this season even if he does score I''ll still have staked more than I''ll win at 28/1!

Great news. I think he offers more than people give him credit for. I don''t know where this idea which he''s a bad player came from, I think he would leave to another championship club, and do a really good job for them. Personally I think he covers for at least two other players, each costing 100-200k (and wages). His work rate and attitude is exemplary. He''s clearly really passionate, and can only be good for morale around the squad. A lot better than some journey man coming in for cover who couldn''t give a damn and just jogged around with some lackadaisical attitude. I think he''s probably our best crosser (certainly amongst the top 3)

As for the goals, I''m afraid to miss a game in case he scores! I think we need to get him on some more free kicks! especially on the right hand side, bending them in to the the top corner! I remember when he came here, he used to be thought of as some what of a specialist. It does sort of annoy me when Chrissy Martin takes them on the right hand side, when the angle is totally against him (although I still think he''s quality)
Good news, good squad player and ok for back up at left back when Drury & Smith are out. Hurry up back Surman.
Better choice than Smith at left back anyway, I would say.
