Whatever happened to the people who couldn't give Lambert the credit for last season and had to always refer back to Gunn?

Recommended Posts

Last season no matter what we achieved some people couldn''t give him the praise he deserved continually refering back to Gunns signings and what they achieved after he left.

I hope now these people can see that Paul Lambert was the right choice and we are in a far better position than we could ever have imagined pre Roeder and certainly pre Colchester 7-1. The results achieved are purely down to the hard work of Lambert his coaches and the planning elements put together.
It''s just that they''ve gone very quiet. Almost acceptance that their argument was flawed.
What argument? I think last season this board was awash with nothing but praise, it was in fact almost heresy speak a single negative word about him!

Thre were only a few who were trying to give the previous management set-up praise for our season. Everyone knows Lambert is the motivator regardless of whose signings they were.

Lambert should get all the credit for what he has achieved. But that doesn''t mean others can''t get credit for what they achieved. While it''s difficult to praise Roeder for anything it has to be acknowledged that he got Hoolahan to our club. At a time when we were relying on cast offs and loan signings Hoolahan was the one shining light. Equally Gunn signed Grant Holt who I believe is right up there with Hucks as an important signing for our club.

Lambert has done brilliantly to take those players from where we were to where we are. The credit for that cannot be shared by anyone.

Ah! It''s the Holt one that always gets my goat. True Gunn signed Holty but Lambo made a strong bid to take him to ColWho but didn''t have the money.

Apart from that Gunn was a total and utter disaster or maybe not that good!

Who are these people?

WHO on earth tried to give Gunn credit for signing players? What? I thought EVERYONE hated Bryan Gunn, and only things i heard/read about his transfers, is he only made 1/2 good ones out of about 7

So why does that get your goat Bury? Holt wouldn''t have signed for little colly in front of Norwich whoever was manager. Just like Lambert wouldn''t manage little colly after Norwich came calling.

What I do find incredible is that there didn''t appear to be Championship clubs competing for Holts signature. He has proved conclusively that he is effective at this level. Still, I''m not complaining, just glad he''s ours!

A lot of this is ifs and buts and we know we can''t go back and find out. We cannot change who brought who to the club. For example, if Gunn hadn''t signed Holt, would Lambert have got him at Colchester? Then the Col Who chairman - that really nice chap - might have made it very tricky for Lambert to buy him when he got the job here. We shall never know.In the overall scheme of things, Lambert has done a brilliant job; initially with the players he inherited then with those he''s brought in.BTW, how''s the recovery going NN?

From what I''ve seen, I reckon he''d give some of the premiership elites a good, old-fashioned going over. But I fear the refs would be seriously out for him.

Now, it being as far as January and with 25 games already under our belt an''all, do you fancy he''ll get that opportunity with us to test himself further next season?

I''m doing ok WITS. Crutches all the time ''til February then will find out more.

You youngsters won''t remember but when we first got promotion to the top flight under Ron Saunders he had inherited many of the players. Kevin Keelan, Clive Payne, Geoff Butler, Alan Black, Dave Stringer, Duncan Forbes, Terry Anderson, Kenny Foggo, Max Briggs and Trevor Howard all played a big part in our promotion but were all inherited by Saunders. Some of those had been at the club for many years previously but we had never looked like getting promotion until Saunders made them into a team with additions of his own. In fact the credit for the signing of our greatest ever goalkeeper goes right back to Ron Ashman and even though Lol Morgan is not remembered for much his signings of Forbes and Foggo will go down as two of the best ever made.

If Norwich get the opportunity then I''m sure Holt will. He''ll be 30 next season and so the incentive is certainly there for him. In fact getting there with Norwich could be his only chance.

If we''d have won that play off final in 2002 Iwan would have got his chance with us in the Prem. 2004 he was two years older. A similar senario would be bad news for Holty.

I think the anti Smith & Jones brigade are the section which has really gone quiet. They seemed happy to blame everything on the ''Stowmarket'' 2 when things went wrong on the pitch, yet appear strangely unable to give credit when things go right. Bless.

As for Holt, always been good enough in my book, but although I am a hypocrite, I am not such a hypocrite as to enjoy our players ''diving'', at least not so often that it becomes headlines, and draws unwanted attention. I would prefer if the gallant striker did a little less chit chat to refs, and stayed on his feet a little longer in the next few games. 8/10

Where has this come from? Has someone been hibernating for a year? It is January 2011, not 2010.

I remember an argument I had about John Bond not knowing when to drop his son Kevin. If only we had this forum then I would be able to bring it up again and keep the argument alive.

I reckon you should read the many many historic threads concerning this and you will find all the arguments done to death that you need.
