Since 1980 27 Posted January 15, 2011 Now just 5 points away from QPR and 2 points difference between 3rd place and 6th. This is as exciting as it gets but not much fun for finger nails!

peter-plastic 0 Posted January 17, 2011 Yes it really is so close. I got my calculator out after seeing the latest table ([:(] [8-|]), and realized that if every team maintained the same form over the final 20 or so games as they have over the first part of the season, there would only be a 2-3 point difference between 2nd and 7th place at the end of the season. 2nd place as things stand might be achievable with only about 79 points. If you are "going for" the play-offs, you might as well "go for" second spot. It looks like 6th spot will need an unusally high number of points - around 76-78. Of course, QPR could continue their recent form and slip (at the moment they would get about 86points based on the form for the season so far). I think fans and players alike are going to need nerves of steel over the next 3- 4 months. A run of 2 points a game between now and the end of the season (Note: Norwich''s current fom 17points from last 8 games) might easily guarantee 2nd place for any one of the teams currently in 2nd to 6th place + Forest. The late goal on Saturday, denying Cardiff 2 points might be very significant. Let''s hope we maintain our form. Certainly the way we have coped with injuries, and that we have only lost once since Cardiff (A) suggests we could remain challenging right at the top. If we do, it could be as nerve-wracking and prolonged as any promtion push we''ve witnessed in the last 40 years.
