alysha 0 Posted December 20, 2010 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6604926,00.htmlLets hope the only club he plays in that division for will be us!
alysha 0 Posted December 20, 2010 just saw this is being discussed in the Canary Ace-Tudor Jones thread in which I said I was nearly worried there as thought it might have been Holt when I saw the title [:O]
Old Shuck 291 Posted December 20, 2010 Lazy journalism-for want of a better word. He''s doing well and they might be considered clubs in need of striker. Someone is bored, else an Ipswich fan! When the writer puts "understands" it means "doesn''t have a clue"-but they don''t want to admit to that! He''d be no better off at any of the clubs mentioned than he is here-why, FFS, would he want to go to Wigan? I know, I know-"to play in the Prem", but, with respect-Wigan in the Prem or us in the Championship and possibly the Prem? Its silly season now and he, Lambert and other players are all going to be linked with moves here, there, and everywhere now-have to get used to it, at least now it is happening again it must mean we are doing something right! chicken 0 Posted December 20, 2010 I''m not sure whether to laugh at that or cry?!!!Firstly the bit about him having 18months left on his contract - he will be what 32 when that runs out - is it not unusual for players around 29/30 to have reletively short contracts ahead of them.Looking at the teams interested he would be better off waiting for the summer to see which ones are still in the premiership. chicken 0 Posted December 20, 2010 Wigan - don''t make me laugh, they are a league 1 or 2 team with a multimillionaire owner.Their support is mediocre and when he leaves them I really do wonder if they will stay in the prem. In a way they are the best example of how wrong modern football is, they are where they are simply because of the owners money, not because of a terrific fan base, location or anything else. lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted December 20, 2010 One minute Holts not good enough for the championship the next he should be playing premiership football. Mad game is football
CanaryJames 0 Posted December 20, 2010 We are bigger than Wigan and probably Bolton. We are better than West Ham.He would be well advised to stay here. It''s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could captain us in the Premiership, and that would be a tremendous personal achievement for him.He only needs to look at the likes of Jason Scotland to see what a wrong move can do - you could end up at Ipswich! alysha 0 Posted December 20, 2010 Can''t see it myself, Holt is no spring chicken anymore and he is now at a club where he is captain, first name on the team sheet and the fans favourite. He is also at a club where I dont want to speak to soon but if we carry on the way we are, we may make the Premiership in the not too distant future ourselves .I''d like to think this means more to him than a bigger wage but for sitting on the bench for a club who doesn''t appreciate him. Nuff Said 5,934 Posted December 20, 2010 Everyone seems to have forgotten the lure of cold, hard cash. We''re not a wealthy club and he would undoubtedly get a big pay rise if he did move.
Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted December 20, 2010 In 2005, when Wigan won promotion to the Premier League they had a wages to revenue ratio of more than 200%.The club only brought in £4m but were able to spend £8m on wages alone. If that isn''t bankrolling a club I don''t know what is. When they first entered the Premier League they made an operating profit in 2006 but since then their operating losses have increased every season.
JF 694 Posted December 20, 2010 Does anyone believe a word of this? No chance of this happening.

GJP 79 Posted December 20, 2010 My guess would be that it''s a bit of agent talk to get him a new contract with us. Having said that, there are probably worse players/goalscorers in the Premier League than him (at the weaker clubs, of course).
Jim Smith 2,578 Posted December 20, 2010 I would like to think this is nonsense. Firstly I just don''t see Prem clubs wanting to take a chance on him and secondly of that list other than Bolton they are all either tinpot or likely to go down. Bolton are also tinpot but Coyle is a good manager and they won''t go down this season. I suppose the lure of hard cash and playing for a northern team closer to Carlisle may appeal to him in some ways given his family are still up north but surely if there is one player we currently have who has sufficient bond with the fans and the club to show a bit of loyalty its Holty. Lambert is King 0 Posted December 20, 2010 I dont beleive a word of it however after saying that if it was true I think a lot of you are looking at this with green and yellow specs on. Do you really beleive somebody of Holts age with a family to think of would turn down a huge wage increase and a three year contract even if it meant warming the bench or playing in the reserves ?. This is a guy that if you look at where and in which division he has played his football the likely hood is he has never earnt big money, why stay comfortable when you are given a chance to become a millionaire and be more than comfortable ? I would think he would be given two choices by his wife his family and a move or NCFC and a divorce. Any team with the parachute or premiership money are a much bigger club than us if you are talking about who they can and cannot sign. They can pay £40000 a week salaries without thinking about it, we can pay a quarter of that and have to think about it.
shefcanary 2,939 Posted December 20, 2010 Depends on how long a view he has. If he has any pretensions of becoming a manager what better way to learn how to do that but stick with Lambo. I am not sure that he would learn much from the clubs supposedly touting for him, as he will be much lower down the pecking order and definitely won''t be captain. As Lambo''s captain here he will be privy to things that will come in very useful for management. With a crack at premiership still possible as well, then you would expect him to give it until the end of season at least. Unless his agent manages to persuade him otherwise. Hardhouse44 287 Posted December 20, 2010 It''s simply, he can go and play in the Premiership in 18 months time if he wishes. Might be able to do that with us, if not he is free to leave. He is worth more to us here than the £2m quid that would in my mind be the top end offers we would get.I love Grant but Premiership don''t make me laugh. If we got promoted we''d be looking for a replacement for him I''m convinced.

Leon Best or Grant Holt? Emile Heskey or Grant Holt? etc etc etc I''m not saying I think it''s likely he''ll go to the Premier League (apart from with us, of course) but I can think of strikers at Premier League clubs who I would not want to swap with Holt. Ideally, if we were rich and successful, we''d be looking to replace all of our players but I would suggest Holt is well down the list of priorities when it comes to replacements. Salopian 1 Posted December 21, 2010 With 18 months left on his contract, surely the club will not let him go cheaply, but the question is whether a Premiership club would be prepared to offer, say, £2m to tempt us. Surely we would not be tempted by a swap of a premiership squad player who can''t get into his own side. This would be a real lack of ambition.I can see the attraction to Holty, if he moves north, - nearer to his family, but above all a chance to prove himself at Premiership level. Even if he enjoys our club and the adulation of fans, he might feel that by the time he can walk away on a Bosman he could be too old for the Premiership.
