If you were in Chrissys boots..?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn''t, as I would have no pride and passion in playing for a country that I was not born or brought up in despite if a family member may have been born there

Chris Martin probably isn''t ever going to become a regular England international.  If he develops well and becomes an established Premier League striker then he might get one cap but that will be it.  So if Scotland come calling then he must take it because it is international football and every player must take any oppurtunity to play it.  He could either hope and pray all his carrer to get in the England squad or he could work hard and try and get into the Scotland squad and have the chance to play against Spain and Italy in World Cup qualifiers.

And if Scotland did get into a competitive comp and they had to play England then why wouldn''t he play?  I know he is English but he is a proffessional footballer so should play against anyone he is asked to play against.

it has to come down to whether or not he feels scottish. I dont think its right to represent any country at a sport unless you feel that that country is your home country or you feel patriatically (or however thats spelt) for it. On the same logic i think its prob fair for an international player who moved to england at a young age and learnt thier trade in this country mainly and they want to represent england and have a passion to play for england then that should be allowed too. Same with managers, i have no problem with a foreign manager being in charge of england as long as he has managed in england for many years- like Wenger or O''Neil. Your parents blood isn''t the only sign of nationality in my eyes. But i don''t see any point in playing for a country just to get an international cap, you need to want to and feel like your that nationality too

RE: BoyoWhat if it were a vital game game for England anything other than a win would been they failed to qualify for the World Cup, Would you play in such a much? How would you feel if Scotland scored the winner to put England out? How would your club and fellow fans of Norwich feel?

If it where a parent, then yes, but a grandparent probably not.....

He''s never (or at least very very very unlikely) going to play for England, so in a way he might as well.....But as has already been said, would he put in the effort/passion when playing for them?

He''s just "on the radar" at moment, so it is possible that nothing will come of this.

If it did, then in Martin''s place I would elect for Scotland. He will get better with experience, but he is not gifted with great pace and there is not much you can do to be quicker than what nature has given you. I can''t see him getting into the England side, and I suspect that he feels the same.

Martin is still young though and developing, and I thought there was all this talk on here not so long back saying he will definiately in the not so distant future leave us for a bigger club in the prem. Add this with the fact that Heskey used to be in the England team....[^o)]

If I was in CHRIS Martins boots, for a start I''d be pi ssed of with people who don''t know me personally calling me Chrissy like they are life long bumchums with myself and I''d be interested in playing for Scotland because CHRIS Martin is unlikely to ever get good enough to make the England team!

I''m sure it''ll be more about having the chance to appear in a World Cup or European Championship that will be the main influence, not whether he feels Scottish or not. All footballers want to have played in a world cup. Lets face it he''s unlikely to ever be good enough for England and he probably knows that himself too. Although i would have thought the same about Newcastles Carroll (who i still dont think is anywhere good enough)and it might be a very long shot that Scotland will be good enough to qaulify in the foreseable future anyhow.

Hes a young footballer with another potential 10-13 years of football left in him. If Chrissy focuses and continues his current progress he could quite realistically play for England. True he has a long way to go, but give it 2 to 4 years and maybe Chrissy could be the finished article. I like the way he is growing, I certainly wont rule out an England cap, not yet anyway.

I''m sorry, but that is never going to happen, I will wager my car on it. I think he is the nuts and think he is a very talented football and will have a good life in the leagues. But I think he at his level now, let alone play for England.

How dare you call him Chris like some sort of lifelong bumchum ! ! ! His name is Christopher Hugh Martin and using anything less is just a show of complete and total disrespect!

Well obviously if he is a passionate Englishmen then it would be hard to knock them out but if he is that passionate about England he wouldn''t accept a call up for Scotland anyway.  If he really wants to play international football and chooses Scotland he would just have to be a man about it and if he knocks England out of the World Cup then so be it.

And as for how would I accept it as a Norwich fan, yes I would probably be a bit annoyed because he is an Englisman but if he has some Scottish in him then let him play for Scotland and score against whoever he wants.  It would only be good for Norwich as a club in the long run.

Lets not be hippocritical (sp) because we all wanted Ryan Giggs to play for England and if he knocked Wales out of a World Cup we would all love it.

Could see him getting into a scotland team in the near future, but as already said before i dont think its right unless hes got the passion for it- one the biggest problems with International football is the lack of passion you see from players these days, espicially England- however saying that, if he was playing International football, it would only benefit Norwich and hopefully increase his value too
