Orient fan returns!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I posted a bit on here last season, and you were all very nice to me. I didn''t expect to ever be posting on here ever again due to you being back where you belonged and us lingering where we normally linger, ie lower mid table of league one.Anyhoo, FA cup it is and I''m looking forward to my first trip to Carrow Road, and a Delia pie (are they all they''re cracked up to be?). You seem to be going great guns this season which is cool, as of all the big teams to come to Brisbane Road in recent years (and there''s been many, Leeds, Southampton, Wednesday, Charlton etc), you''ve been the nicest fans I''ve spoken to. And we won that game 2-1, in Slade''s first game in charge, it was awesome and helped us stay up. So fair play, Lambert seems to be doing wonders despite him sounding pissed in most of the interviews he ever gives [;)]I hear you have loads of injuries and that you might be playing youth teamers. I mean, we aren''t complaining, although I doubt it''ll make a difference, genuinely don''t expect any form of upset, you are free-scoring and we have a leaky defence. Go figure. We have a completely new team to last year, so most of the players you might remember from our side has probably left, except Scott McGliesh and a few others. Jimmy Smith still plays for us, he played on loan for you didn''t he? He is mediocre. Oh yeah, we also have Elliot Omozuzi who also played on loan for you. He is rubbish. And Ryan Jarvis has sunk even lower, just returning from a loan spell at Northampton, where he scored.......0 goals. Which surprised no-one. He''s ineligible Saturday cos he played for Northampton in the cup. Other players of note don''t really include anyone of note. Matt Spring apparently played most of his career to date in the Championship and Premiership, but there is little evidence of that - he is cack. Alex Revell has scored 12 goals this season which is nice, he also has a terrible fake tan.I''d guess we''ll take about 1500 on Saturday, I believe a decent atmosphere can be generated, which should be nice. Over and out, and good luck for the rest of the season. It''s an odd cup tie for me, in that I don''t really care about the result. I just want a good day out. [:)] Slade xx

Welcome back to the PU board first of all.

You''ll have a great time at CR, generally the atmosphere is good, good friendly banter between fans (apart from leeds scum and scum), as for the pies, I can recommend the Cornish pasties, as sometimes the pies can be a bit odd, like cauliflower cheese pies etc...

Have a safe journey and good luck

I would recommend the hot pies from Morrisons, which is over the road from the ground (sorry Delia).  If you buy anything in our ground you''ll feel like you''ve been mugged.

Is that the same Matthew Spring that used to play for Watford and Luton?  I think Peter Grant tried to sign him for us, which says everything you need to know about Peter Grant.

Does Elliot Omozuzi still have a bit of a rest after 20 minutes?  When he was here it used to last about 70 minutes.

Enjoy your day on Saturday.

Yep it''s the Luton and Watford Matt Spring. He was signed as  a replacement for Sean Thornton (remember him, he scored twice against you at Brisbane Road last season, quality player but got released cos he  was a piss artist, now isn''t playing for anyone - a sad case really), but is  a shadow of the player. Had a feeling he nearly signed for you once, that''s why I mentioned him.Omozuzi was the signing we were excited about, cos he played in the prem a dozen times. Unfortunately he runs funny and is generally a bit shite. It''s weird sometimes he does a brilliant piece of defensive work, then a minute later will let the ball through his legs. I''ve also never seen anyone pass the ball so lacadaisically before.Hmm, me and my dad were quite excited about a Delia pie. Also aren''t there loads of restaurants in Carrow Road, the prick who sits next to me at Orient was waxing lyrical about them on Monday (when we bounced back from a 5-0 drubbing against Brighton to beat Colchester, who had only lost one game away all season, 4-2, just to give you our form going into Saturday!).

My relation played in the same City youth team as Jarvis. He was adamant that one day Jarvis would play for his country! That may have been slightly over the top praise but early in his career he was very highly rated, just shows how it can all go wrong.

Slade.... The pies are as inconsistent and over priced as Elliot Omozusi, get yourself to Morrisons pie counter as mentioned. As for Ryan Jarvis, I apologise on behalf of all city fans for creating a monster.

Slade Just to let you knowif you want to try Delia''s cooking I would recommend Yellows at the ground (normally gets busy but if you get in early it''s fine) good quality Burgers etc

The Pies are not made at Carrow Road I believe they come from up north - apart from the Match day pie (the Cauliflower cheese and pickle and the likes - normally ordered to match the teams we play i believe - so look out for the jellied eel and mash pie on Sat [:)] - these I know are made from local produce and fairly local)

Enjoy your day

Loads of places to eat near the ground slade.Along Riverside there''s a pizza place, a couple of Italians, Chinese buffet, Weatherspoon''s, West Coast bar, Morrison''s (as previously mentioned), Costa Coffee and the away fans'' pub is The Complete Angler, just on the bridge opposite the station. Further up that r.oad - Prince of Wales Road - are several other places to eat/drink but some are just for home fans. There''s a KFC just up from the Complete Angler if you like that sort of thing.Have a good trip up and thanks for the post. Great to get a balanced contribution from an opposition supporter.Omozusi was dreadful as was Jimmy Smith.Don''t know if away fans can bring bottles into the ground - home fans can - but suggest you buy soft drinks in Morrison''s as well.

Welcome Slade, can I start by saying I hope you have a great day and enjoy the atmosphere of Carrow Road ! Can I recomend to you ( regarding pies ) that you decide YES if its anything curry based and a big fat NO if it seems to be "last nights left over pie" They can be really hit and miss, I get them every week more for a giggle.First time I took my gf to Carrow road I was banging on about "having one of Delia''s pies" she took in (oops) the hype and was looking forwards to some world ending pie... lets just say she was pretty angry with me as she had even decided to miss lunch for a fabled Delia pie ! My dad has also finally given up and reverted to Sausage Rolls !!You guys seem to have a few players we will recognise and it should be a good day, not sure if we are going full strength or rest a few. I doubt you will give us a easy game as you just got a great result against Colchester town (4-2 wasnt it ? ) beating Cowlings bunch of inbreds always gets a thumbs up from us :)Again, hope you have a great day out, if you need any pub recomendations etc yell :)

Hello there Slade,

Thanks for taking the trouble to come back and post. Yes, Matthew Spring was the player whose wife didn’t want him to move. I’m not surprised that you don’t think much of Elliott Overrated. In the time he was at Norwich I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. One ok game sandwiched between three of four average ones. I thought he was a better centre back than right back but having seen him play RB that’s not a huge compliment of his ability as a central defender.

Good to see Scotty McGleish is still playing. I saw him play for Barnet quite a few times in his early days and he was scoring goals then. His Dad, Jock McGleish used to manage Edgware Town a local Ryman League team close to where I live.

Jimmy Smith was very average when he was at Norwich. I saw him help set up a goal at Scunthorpe but that’s all I can remember of him when he played with us. Not surprised at what you think of him. As regards Ryan Jarvis…..

Not idea what sort of team we’ll play on Saturday, given our league position and injuries; no-one can second guess who Paul Lambert will select each week; if I had to take a punt I think he might rest a few players.

Have a safe trip to Norwich.

Hmm, I might run "Yellows" past my dad, see if we want a proper lunch, are away fans welcome? Also, a pub nearish the away end where I can have a quiet pint before the game would be nice [:)]Jarvis is a terrible terrible footballer, he just doesnt score enough for a striker, how he got 8 last season is beyond me, but in fairness he scored one of the goals to keep us up on the final day so fair play to the lad.Smith is pretty poor, but he''s been actually playing well recently. Yeah we won 4-2, very good result. Also, watch out for our winger called Paul-Jose M''Poku, he''s on loan from Spurs, Belgium U-19 captain, genuinely the best winger I''ve ever seen down the Orient in my life (I''ve been going nigh on 17 years).

The Complete Angler is the "away" pub and thats just over from the station. Best bet is to just go to the Riverside and have some drinks there. Its highly comercialised but there are a lot of bars and pubs down there. In regards to being an away fan, basically no one will care unless your being obnoxious or an Ipswich fan :-pYou pretty much have to look for trouble if you want it over at the Riverside.

As others say dont have the pies in the ground. The selection is limited to like a meat pie and a vegitarian pie, there not that nice and there extrememely over niced. Go to Morrisons or go to one of the various restaurants where you will get much more for your money.

Meh, I''ve made an executive decision with myself not to go to Yellow, can''t be arsed. I''ll stick with a Delia pie. Don''t worry, we aren''t the trouble types, Orient fans on the whole aren''t, we are as friendly as you get, I''ll bear "the complete angler" in mind though. How far''s the Riverside from the ground. One other thing, what''s parking like, cos we''re driving. We would take the train, but I''m off to York after the game with a lot of baggage so I need a car.

Best thing to do is park at Norwich City Hall, as you approach Norwich there is a round about and basically City Hall comes off of there. Only problem with City Hall is its a real c**t to get out of. So expect to sit in your car for 2 hrs after the game if you choose this option + it costs £4. There are obviously a lot of places to park in the area and I suggest you get inovative ;)However if you have a lot of stuff in the car City Hall will be your safest bet, or the multi story at the River side. City Hall is mainly home fans but I have seen a car litterally covered in Leeds badges etc and it made it out just fine post game !! :)To get to the Complete Angler you need to go via Riverside anyway, just ask someone who looks friendly the way or google map it from Carrow Road. Head through the Riverside to the exit where there will be a river on your left and the train station infront right. Walk round the path next to the river and the Riverboat Thai restraunt until you reach a bridge, go left across and you will see the Complete Angler on the right. The area will have a lot of people around so you will not get lost or find yourself in a "oh sh*t" situation :)

Welcome back Slade.

Nexus means County Hall not City Hall.

You can park very close to the ground, where the away coaches park on Lower Clarence Road (stones throw from the ground).

If you like real ale the Coach and Horses on Thorpe Road is very close to that car park and the ground (it has it''s own brewery) - away fans are allowed in.

I''ve put the road names in so you can find them on Google maps - if you decide to come to the Coach let me know.

In fact slade you can feel safe to walk in any pub in and around the Ground area, but highly reccomend Morrisons they do a great All day breakfast £3.99, you won''t need any pies after eating that breckers, and a pint in the ground is almost £4.00, good to see you back have a good day out, and I think the general feeling here is we don''t realy want the F/A cup the league is more important to us right now, may even struggle to get above 15000.

Hi Slade good to hear from you again. I went to the game at Brisbane Rd, had a great time (despite the result) and now have a real soft spot for Orient. It should be a good day and if we are going to be turned over by anybody then Orient is fine by me. I would suggest you park at the County Hall, it can take a while to get off (to be honest most places close to the ground will be busy after the game) but at least it is close to the A47 and within easy walking distance of the ground.

Hope you and your Dad have a great day and a safe journey

Thanks all for the advice, I shudda made myself clearer before, I''m taking the train to York after the game, so ideally I need to park as near to the station as possible so as not to schlep my stuff around Norwich!4 quid a pint in the ground???/ Not even Brisbane Rd is that dear, I don''t like to drink in the ground personally but that''s still pretty expensive. Sounds like the Riverside is the best option, might check that out, mind you all depends on the traffic, we might just go straight to CR if we get stuck.Pleased you have a soft spot for us Sons of Boadicea, many fans (mainly of the likes of Spurs, Arse, Wet Sham etc) do, we have this reputation as a club that is just about that inoffensive!! Unless you''re a Southend or a Brighton fan, they seem to hate us.

Do you know Slade you''re absolutely right about Paul Lambert sounding pissed in interviews. It''s never really struck me before but he does! Wonderful! Have a good day out and you never know, you might just be back on here next season.

I live in York myself now - a fine city much like Norwich, but without the fantastic football club! What brings you this way my friend? You''ll have at least one train change on the journey as you''ll know already - at Peterborough I believe. Don''t be put off by the comments about Delia''s pies..just try one or you''ll always wonder what they were like (though you''ll most likely be disappointed from the sounds of things!)

Welcome back Slade.  Like Sons of B, I also have some great memories of my trip to your gaff last season (despite the result).  Went in your supporters club and was warmly welcomed - and what a great selection of real ales and cheap (but substantial) rolls.  Have had a soft spot for your lot since a great friend of mine had a trial at your place way back in the early 70''s (the days of Goddard and Mancini when Jimmy Bloomfield was manager).  Hope you have a great day on Saturday whatever the result - suggest parking on Lower Clarence Road as advised by someone previously.  If Royal Mail open their car park for charity its a lot cheaper than the away coach park opposite (and even closer to the station).  Another pub suggestion only 10 mins walk from the away end is the Mustard Pot on Thorpe Road (Adnams Ales and good food).
