When Holt got sent off....

Recommended Posts

we completely lost an attacking threat and the whole side suffered.

If he is suspended then we will suffer massively. It''s not about the goal scoring its about the effort and the cover he gives midfield and defensively as well.

We are SO lucky to have someone like Holty because of what he does. We are really going to miss him if he''s out.

WFL GH!!!

I totally agree. Holt is one of a kind in our team, & nigh on impossible to replace. However I do think Lambert was a bit at fault on Tue.; I suspect that he (& the rest of the team) were so gobsmacked by the sending off that he didn''t get the tactics right. At first sight the retaining of Martin up front, now as a lone striker, was the thing to do, but the trouble is he''s not very effective in that role. It was pretty obvious we''d be under the cosh, so we needed strikers who can break fast.Perhaps Gill could have replaced Fox at half time, with Jackson for Martin & McNamee told to push on whenever possible? Korey, Crofts & Gill shoild provide a pretty solid midfield with Macca harrying back & supporting Simeon - although Anthony would have been run to a standstill by the end . Hooly (or Askou) could have been brought on for the last 10.Another possibility would have been to drop Korey to RB, shift Russell to LB Lappin (or Gill) to LM & Ant to RM.Whatever, I did get the feeling Paul was so incensed it clouded his judgement a bit. When all''s said & done, the team did well to come away with a point under the (appalling) circumstances.

Holt played very well and, for me, showed not only what we missed in the second half, but have been missing all season.

Although the Reading defence was terrible, he was, at times, unplayable in that first half.

Hopefully it will give him the belief to kick on against Leeds and Ipswich (if not suspended) and stop constantly playing for free kicks that he''s not going to win.

Holt was playing extremly well but in the second half we kept hoofing the ball out aimlessly and rarely was it even in Martin''s direction. Rarely did we see the simple neat that we saw int he first half.

If it had of been Martin who got sent off then hoofing it out all the time wouldn''t of been as much of a problem as Holt is better at receiving balls like that than Martin is.

Correct!

Those who slate Holt don''t see the full picture!

[/quote]You contradict yourself here Davo. You say that the ball was rarely even played in Martin''s direction 2nd half.  How would Holt with his lack of pace have managed to have got himself on the end of any of the hopeless balls that were lumped out of our defence between 45 mins and 70 mins on Saturday?
