Line up & Formation against Cardiff

Recommended Posts

It will be interesting to see if Lambert sticks with the 442 with Fox and Macnamme or if he reverts back to the diamond. Personally, I''d like to see the diamond back, as we have a good away record and in my opinion didn''t look a better side playing 442.

               Martin       Barnett    Ward     Smith

                                    Crofts

               Smith/Fox                      Lappin

                                   Hoolahan

                        Jackson            Holt

Agree with that team. I''d play Smith ahead of Fox – tougher in the tackle and a bit more energy for my money, better for breaking up the play.

I would go for:

                                 Ruddy

R Martin          Barnett         Ward             Drury/Smith

                                 Crofts

McNamee                                                 Lappin

                                 Hoolahan

                   Jackson                     Holt

I don''t think you can really play McNamee in the diamond, or indeed have Hoolahan and McNamee in the same team unless pushing for a goal later in the game.

For this game, I would stick with the diamond as it has served us well away from home and is perfect for counter attack football with Hoolahan and Jackson really able to show their stuff.

I would recall K Smith for this game as he will be able to offer extra protection to R Martin against Bellamy on the left. He is a bit better in the tackle than Fox so I would recall him for this reason.

My team would be:

GK - Ruddy

Def - R Martin, Ward, Barnett, S Smith

Mid Diamond - Crofts, K Smith, Lappin, Hoolahan

Strikers - Holt, Jackson

Subs - Rudd, Askou, Fox, McNamee, C Martin, Johnson, Ball (this lad can play!)
