Great QPR game memories

Recommended Posts

Can''t remember the year but was there when we stopped Rangers winning the old 1st Division title by beating them 2-0 (I think), thereby ensuring Liverpool won the title. Who scored?

We won 3-2. They won 13 of their last 15 games, drawing 1 and losing that game to us. Our scorers were MacDougall, Morris and Boyer. There''s were Thomas and a Powell own goal. There were over 31,000 at FCR to see it, 200 more than for the scum derby the month before.

As I told Hoopy on the other thread - we are their bogey team [;)]

Alan Taylor making a comeback and scoring some time after retirement to play in a Boxing Day game.

Correct me if I''m wrong, but I think he was running a milk round at the time!

Impressive. Did you look that up or was it off the top of your head. I remember it was a great game and a wee bit crowded. Nearly got knocked off my beer crate a couple of times

When we were both in the premiership in its early years, any game with

QPR and you were was almost guaranteed an absolute humdinger! Usually

high scoring and very even in terms of number of wins between us. I remember losing one 4-3 but also winning one 4-2? Often

around Christmas. The scoreline very often involved a 4 or a 3!

Anyone able to sharpen my very

hazy but largely good memories of our games with QPR?

Nutty if I remember rightly the game was the featured match on Match Of The Day and there were many people sitting around the perimeter, in front of the old Main Stand.Very warm day and great game.

I think it was Easter Saturday Willo and I remember it as a warm day. It was in 1976 and QPR were on an amazing run with 11 wins and one draw from their previous 12 games. After they lost to us they won their remaing two games but lost the title by one point to Liverpool. So yes we did cost them the title. But I was disappointed about that because I would have loved them to have pipped Liverpool. They were probably the better side that afternoon but we got the breaks and that, as they say, is football.

I didn''t remember it all off the top of my head! I remembered it vagyuely last night when reading a post from Hoopy where he said the current QPR team were the best he had seen in his 34 years as a fan. I haven''t seen this current side but that team managed by Dave Sexton with the likes of Gerry Francis, Phil Parkes, Frank McLintock, Dave Webb, John Hollins, Dave Thomas, Don Masson and Stan Bowles to name a few, were awesome and every neutral in the country would have loved them to win the title at Liverpool''s expense.

Here''s a link to the QPR view. And reading it, and remembering a bit more, I''m certain that Hoopy has lost his memory!!!!!![:O]

He didn''t score many for us but I remember he had a hard shot. I''m trying to think where he went on to be a manager. I remember he came at the same time as Johnny Miller. Both from ipswich and there''s a wonderful story that Millers fee hadn''t been paid when he scored the goals that beat ipswich in the League Cup Quarter Final the year we lost to Villa in the final.
Nutty, you''re right that he was known for his fearsome shooting but it was his only goal for us, in 86 games! Wiki says in 66 games but I''ll trust Canary Citizens.

A more recent game that springs to mind is the Boxing Day (was it Boxing day? It was certainly cold) match where Pape Diop got himself involved in a "spat" with the QPR fans... That was a good match as well, I seem to recall.

Being 3-1 up after 10 minutes of a game in 1999 or 2000 I think - from memory they had to sub one of their players after about 3 minutes, we got a penalty after 4 (and I think it made it 2-0 at the time), they pulled it back to 2-1 after 7 or 8  and we got another after 10.  The rest of the match wasnt quite as memorable - think we won 4-2......

Memories for me... Darren Eadie scoring his first professional goal against them in a 2-2 draw (I think he did anyway), Andy Taylor aged about 40 getting a last minute equaliser against them in 1989 on the most sand ridden pitch ever. And who can forget Raymond De Warrd''s debut for Norwich V QPR? I remember watching him for 20 minutes and realised he couldn''t actually play football. My Dad thought I should''ve given him longer, but I knew then. Shame Bryan Hamilton didn''t.
Ricardo is seldom wrong Dylan. I had a seat in what was then the South Stand, level with the edge of the River End penalty area. As I remember the goal, Parkes punched it clear and Peter Morris hit a stunning volley into the Barclay End net. I don''t claim to be infallible but thats how I still see it in my memory.

A fine goal.Morris just as Ricardo describes it. From a bit outside the box, slightly to the left of centre.Boyer, all alone, headed home from the edge of the six-yard box after MacDougall miskicked a cross-cum-shot into the ground and it fell perfectly for Boyer.Powell and Don Givens chased a through ball. Powell got there first and executed a perfect lob over Keelan. Arguably the most technically adept goal of the game!

Was in the Barclay that day when Morris lashed the ball in and we went berserk. It was also famous for one of Colemans quotes "Parkes punched it out but Morris said "now take that back"".

Other game I remember was the Dunc scoring in a 1-0 win at Carra Rud in 1969 or 1970.

Also the Easter 0-0 draw at their place in our promotion season in 1972 when they were captained by the majestic Terry Venables.

Some of you guys have better memories than me! Especially Ricardo who remembers details so well. I remembered the game and it''s importance because I thought Hoopy''s post last night was bonkers. But not many details like which end the goals were scored. In fact sometimes I have to think hard before I can remember what stand I was in!! We used to move around so much in those days. One week The Barclay, one week the River End and sometimes the South Stand. Big goals I remember, Steve Bruces against Ipswich was the Barclay End. Dave Stringers against Palace was the River End. I was in the River End for Stringers and the South Stand for that scum semi.

A lot of stuff that was on tv back then can sometimes be found on you tube but I just looked and couldn''t see the QPR game of ''76. But I did find this from the previous years League Cup Final against Villa : -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaf2oixNafI

No football I''m afraid but great close ups of the two sides both managed by Norwich legends and if you listen carefully OTBC sung properly like what we used to do [;)]

Being slightly younger, some recent memories:

A 2-1 win against QPR on Boxing Day, where Pape Diop (who was usually crap) absolutely destroyed their left-back Ian Baraclough (now Sunthorpe manager), and led us to a 2-1 win, before spitting the crowd and never playing for us again...! I also remember in that game some player called Bardsley or Baddesley (?) going through on an open goal and then tripping over the ball!

Even more recently, I think it was Peter Grant''s first game in charge (or watching from the stands at least) and we drew 3-3 at Loftus Road - Dublin scored 2 I think. Classic game again.

And we actually beat QPR in one of only 3 away wins last time we got relegated (Darel Russell scored)

As people have mentiond, we do have a decent record at Loftus Road; lets see if it can continue!

Being on the slightly senile side, I vaguely remember Matt Jackson making his debut away at QPR and promptly giving a penalty away in about the first 10 minutes - I may be wrong.......... pass the tablets

Hard to believe there were 30,000+ there that day. This was the game where late on in the game, the ball went out for a corner, the ball boy immediately put it in the corner quadrant, corner was taken immediateley from which we scored and won the game.

It was an all time classic Norwich game which was on Match of the Day at the time, but I''ve never been able to find footage of it.

I remember there was scrapping at the QPR open away end in the 80''s (when they had the plastic pitch) Racey - "Some girls do" was playing over the tannoy at the time - what a bizarre thing to remember.

Remember that as well-an amazing goal, right in front of us-the proverbial ping pong in their penalty area, shot after shot from us, deflections out and half clearances from them, eventually, after what seemed an age, it dropped at his feet and he scored-pandemonium and Taylor looks like he can''t quite believe what has happened!

A happy festive trip to Loftus Road ruined when they equalised (may have been Gary Penrice?) in the dying seconds...
