Atmosphere, Language etc N&P LOWER.

Recommended Posts

Me and 3 mates have season tickets in the n&p lower - tuesday night generally carries more casual support and so it turned out last night. The more the game went on the better the atmosphere in the N&P lower, it was actually beginning to liven up, i kid you not! [:D]However, one particular individual felt it necessary to turn to my friend and say "You will not swear anymore, i will not have swearing near me". Now, with chants such as ''Always s**t on the old blue and white'', this was never going to be a reality. That, mixed with a rather atmospheric game and a sending off means that there will be the occasional swear word. The argument was then turned  into ''I won''t have you swearing in front of kids''. This would be fair enough, had it not been for the fact that the only kids around us were behind us, f''ing and blinding all match, joining in with any chant with a swear word in it, and being told by their parent that that kind of language stays within the ground - Which is perfectly fair enough and how i was bought up.Some people might go to Sunday church, say grace before dinner and live life that way without ever swearing - but unfortunately me and my mates were at a football match last night, not a sunday dinner. Now, the real argument here is whether swearing should be acceptable in a football ground or not. The fact of the matter is generally speaking it is accepted that way - and until we''re all turned into scone eating, tea pouring nancy boys i think its here to stay!

"scone eating, tea pouring nancy boys"

you seem rather over familiar with the habits of ''nancy boys''

any reason for that ?

So long as you''re not effing and blinding every second,i don''t see a problem.Swears are going to come out,no matter how hard you try not to.

And as my brother says to his son," Whatever you hear inside, doesn''t get repeated outside!".And as a Spurs fan,he hears a large amount of swearing[:D]
So if you don''t swear, your a nancy boy?
Oh dear god. You have to take everything so ''as it is'' don''t you.No of course that''s not what im saying. But what i am saying is football fans are gradually changing - in some cases for the better, others for the worse. I don''t think swearing at football is a big deal. Personally. Others will disagree. But to say ''think of the kids'' is ridiculous, can they not hear the other 3 stands around them?! Especially the barclay.
lol, You''ve just done exactly what you accused me of...
No, i haven''t. I haven''t take anything ''as it is'' other than your statement of "So if you don''t swear, you''re a nancy boy?".There''s a fair few idiots on this forum but even 1st Wiz would realise that i wasn''t saying that at all...

And also, anything anyone says, can be taken out of context....If you where famous, and said something like that, the papers would be quoting you saying, if you don''t swear your a nancy boy....

Swearing issues aside, it''s good to hear the river end''s hotting up. I remember it being a wonderful cauldron of noise and passion when I went in the mid 90s. Once. When we played and beat the schkumm (3-1 I think).

Next time it happens, try ''taking it further''. It would be a fairly entertaining scene if you were to get, say, soundly pummelled by locals who''ve taken an oath of swearlessness, and had to be escorted from the stand by stewards for your own safety. Not so funny for you, clearly, but why don''t you try it anyway?

My opinion on the actual swearing issue....

Its never going to go away....People swear, the vast majority of people accept that, and a large number will use swear words as well....There not necessary, but they exist, i have no problem with people using them....It would be nice if Kids didn''t have to learn them, especially when there young, but then one kids learns some, goes into school, and they all know how to swear.....and for some reason 50%+ of football chants are largely based on swearing :P
haha [:D]Yeah it was getting better and louder and gradually has been all season. I imagine if it gets too loud those that complain about swearing will move into the Wensum Family Corner eventually anyway....And GP i don''t dislike you for having a Mac, if you''re willing to spend the money on a nice interface then thats all up to you [:P]

Despite Delia''s dumbing down.... football is a man''s game played by men and any strong language overheard in the ground is commonplace in the school playground out of mummy''s earshot. The day swearing becomes outlawed will be the day the luvvie wins and football as the ''people''s game'' dies.

Football incites passion, and people express this in different ways.  If I took my boy to a game (when I take my boy to a game, actually - a few years off yet though) I won''t complain if people around me are swearing in the heat of the moment or through joy, frustration, anger - but if some knobhead''s swearing for the sake of it, I may have a word.  UNless it''s Smudger because I don''t want to be assaulted. Allegedly.

Nice one!

One day this season I hope to return and enjoy a 2-sided or dare I say 3-sided affair (referring here to riotously noisome stands, not additional teams on the pitch).

Well said Mr C!When I''ve taken friends'' children to games, i''ve said to them what they hear in the ground stays in the ground.I don''t sing the songs with swear words but have been known to use the occasional expletive during moments of great excitement or disappointment - when at football before anyone says anything else! [;)]It''s the continual swearing that''s irritating.

When i was a nipper stood at the front of the Barclay I would hear more swearing between the players Keelan and Black were the worst than ever I did in the chanting

Oddly enough hardly any of the older chaps in the crowd swore - I suppose many had been through the war and there wasn''t the need to prove themselves

I don''t think some people realise that, that kind of language is part of the game! Has been for ages, and probably won''t stop any time soon.

i think as long as you don''t say the C word  in general conversation  in front of a woman then its all good....although i think the C word as part of  chant as in ..keano your a c---, keano keano your a c--- is perfectly acceptable [:D]

I think for some people the c word is the worst example of swearing, I personally don''t like to hear it under any circumstances but have to accept I will sometimes hear it at a match. Mrs Martina however, will ask people not to use it if it is used by someone next to her, you have been warned !.......

What the hell has it got to do with Delia?

You don''t see many football club owners pissed as a parrot on the pitch at half time!
