The last link with our halcyon years?

Recommended Posts

I may have to stand corrected but I suspect that our club''s last link on the footballing side with the halcyon years   (i.e. BD) was cut with the departure of Jamie Cureton during the summer after his second ultimately disappointing spell with us.

The records show that Jamie scored 6 goals in 29 appearances for City between 1993-96 after his earlier legendary goalscoring exploits with Ade Akinbiyi in the youth ranks.

Jamie was always a colourful character committed to the club.

I would like to wish for him, on behalf of the majority I''m sure, a successful swan song at Exeter as he heads for his exit at stage right.

Afterwards if he is so inclined I''m sure he would have a fascinating book in him written from the perspective  of a junior professional during the climactic years of NCFC immediately before BD and AD.

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I''d go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I''ve gone completely out of my mind.. And..

They''re coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They''re coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I''ll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they''re
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I''m utterly mad... And..

They''re coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They''re coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they''re
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they''ll find you yet and when they do they''ll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They''re coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They''re coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I''ll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they''re coming

Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I''m catching up, ha ha ha....

That''s interesting.

How would you know if you didn''t join until 2006?

Good to know that you''ve learnt to cut & paste.

But beware, the higher a monkey climbs the more he exposes himself.

Many of us oldies were about then and many of the staff as well, so no!

Jamie Curetons 2 spells with us I wouldn''t describe as ''halcyon''!

He made his debut for us in the 1994/95 season when we got relegated. He then played the next season in the 2 tier when the club went into meltdown.

He rejoined us for the 2007/08 season when we only just avoided the drop. He then played the next 2 seasons when we gradually declined till we were in the 3rd tier!

Cureton was a player that could of done much more in his career cause he certainly had the talent, but his spells with us wern''t great although I aprciated his desire to do well for the club!

Halcyon years? Those wonderful years (successful or otherwise) before the cook arrived and assembled her flock is when they ended..........I''ve just returned from a few days relaxing in my beloved city.... only to nearly projectile vomit my Branflakes when a ridiculously airbrushed picture of Delia Smith stared out at me from the front of the EDP.... a feckin-gain!  Exclusive interview in the EDP2 today it said.....  More like the fact that only the cynically ''brought-close'' Archant are bloody interested. Those halcyon years of yore are long gone.... along with the City''s beloved football club. It get more like ''Come Dine With Me'' every day.... and I hate that too.
