Why not "friendlies" during international breaks

Recommended Posts

Ipswich, Colchester,Tottenham, Peterborough,Lincoln,West Ham, QPR, Norwich. All. would have a 10,000 crowd. Four winners play each other during the next International break, No draws. Penalties before the start of the game not afterwards. Bigger goal areas. 13 Players a side. The linesman throwing the ball in from touch with his back to the pitch. Sin bin for 10 mins for yellow card.Four periods of 20 minutes playing time. 5 mins break taken on the pitch. E.A Trophy to the winners plus a game against winning European side organised on the same basis.

Bobert, do you spend a lot of the Australian day out in the sun?

Very little Mr Chops as it can be quite cold in the middle of Winter on the beach but aren''t football fans conservative? Half time came about originally so that the opposing teams could change the game to the others set of rules. I always remember sorting a bunch of little kids into 13 a side when too many turned up. They were having a glorious time untill the official "coach" turned up. "Oh no we can not have that" said he and so 4 little lads had to come off the pitch and not play any longer.

The original Norwich City games were "friendlies". Memory suggests that the first Norwich game was against Harwich & Parkstone but it was a long time ago. Taking the Penalty kicks before the game starts means the "loosing" team plays like Hell in the last twenty minutes because there is no point in playing for a draw. Bigger goal minding areas should mean more goals with more long range shots and we all like to get to our feet and salute the goal scorer. Thirteen a side should mean the end of the lone striker with at  least 3 forwards. In my day we played 2:3:5 with five forwards as the norm, and we charged the goal keeper too. Good games they were. The Blackpool v Bolton FA Final is still a classic played over 50 years ago

It really is rather silly having Carrow closed for two thirds of the year. If you don''t want "Friendlies" why not have "Ladies" Football. It was so big before the war that the "men" of the FA banned it from being played on "their" grounds and came in with the silly rule that girls over 11 yrs could not play "mens" soccer.

Regardless of the history of the game, the idea of teams playing while their internationals are gone is intriguing (sp?).

On one hand, it''s a chance for the players to recover from injuries, but it would also be a chance for regular 2nd and lower team players to show their stuff while keeping the non-international regulars up to snuff.

It sucks for the team when they have momentum to be stuck with a break, but it is a chance for teams that have run into trouble to reorganize.

6 of one, half dozen of the other.
