Attack best form of Defence?

Recommended Posts

for me we just looked so shaky in defence! When we were attacking in the first half, before they scored, we looked bloody brilliant! Slick passing and movement, i was so impressed by the midfield. I thought the new 3 looked quality. Then they attacked. Oh dear. Our defence just didn''t show the composure (sp?) we had shown attacking. Its like they thought sh!t what do we do what do we do!? Ward and Nelson didm''t play as a partnership, i know its early days but they need to sort it out soon! They train together every day. I would understand if its sunday league who don''t train and only met eachother before the game but they didn''t! I thought (sorry) the Doc would have done better than Ward. Russel Martin didn''t convince me last season and didn''t last night either. Like i said its early days and if we can just sort the defence out a bit we will do well.

I''m of the opinion that defence is the best form of defence!. I''m prepared to reserve judgement on the central defence until Whitbread is fit as the consensus is that he and Ward are the preferred pairing - and importantly a right and left footed one. However just as crucially as discussed on other threads, the make-up of our midfield simply cannot work in this way when not in possession otherwise we will be sliced open at will. There has to be a re-think over who is deployed where within this department.

[/quote]Yes exactly! We had too many ball-playing midfielders last night, and no real ball-winning midfield. This is where Russell is being missed, and where Korey would have been better. As for the defenders, I am not saying they played well, but any defence is likely to be cut open on occasions if the midfielders in front of them are not doing their job.
