shefcanary 2,341 Posted August 14, 2010 Just back from the match. We never looked like losing this one. Always in control. Scunny seemed to approach the match as if we were a premier outfit - never tried to put much pressure on. We should have killed them off well before God Holt''s winner. Not sure why his goal earlier was chalked off - pushing maybe? He and Martin had several chances to have wrapped it up.The diamond meant we were very narrow for most of the match and you always had a sense that we would not be able to put in a good final ball - although that was how we won it with a great cross from the King of Spain!Truly if teams give us this much respect throughout the rest of the season with our stamina we should always be capable of winning. Only if teams try to attack us will we struggle. A clean sheet but the defence was never really troubed, however the distribution of all bar Drury left a huge amount to be desired (that incudes Ruddy). Holt and Martin were asked to do too much with the service they got from the defence. Great to see Huck''s in the stand too!I f%ckng love Grant Holt!

Canariesworld 0 Posted August 14, 2010 Drury''s passing was woeful: he gave it away loads trying to play it down the line.OTBC

Not sure that the Beeb ever lie, although they are certainly appear biased in some situations and are guilty of withholding information when reporting some news items. Great to see Huck''s in the stand too!I f%ckng love Grant Holt![/quote]Fair report Shef - I did''nt see Hucks there but the boy Smudger could do with shedding a few pounds. That black shirt of his was protruding ominously!Anyway, back to the match. It seemed eerily like many games of last season where we gave a kind of stuttering, third gear type performance in the first half only to (presumably) be ''encouraged'' by PL to step up and go for it second half. The away support was fantastic second half, something PL clearly recognised when the players were instructed (in no uncertain terms) to spend time acknowledging the fans at the end). The energy level across the entire team picked up in the second half and we ran the midfield completely. Wes was dominant as was Crofts from a deeper position. With Wes it still irks me that some punters on here continue to make sniping comments like .......''too lightweight, can''t do this and that, and (best of all) a ''liability''. Christ if the boy Wes is a ''liability'' I just wish the whole team was a ''liability''!! His workrate was probably as high as I''ve seen from him and he gave a more controlled and conventional performance with any overindulgence pared down to a bare minimum.Suman continues to frustrate - very early days yet but his commitment looks dodgy and he doesn''t give us the wide left option we had assumed. There is quality there but I want to see it put to much better use otherwise the King of Spain will soon resume that slot. No surprise that it was the King''s cross that Holt crashed in the winner from.Ward? - again, a player who appears to only want to do the bare minimum to get by. Some decent clearing headers when the pressure was on first half but he needs to step up and dominate. Nelson? - say what you like but the boy competes for everything and is rarely beaten in the air. Anticipation has improved as well. Still the occasional hoof but even that side of his game is streets better than 12 months or so back.Just grateful for that late, late winner - we deserved nothing less after that second half show.
