stewfil 10 Posted July 28, 2010 As the Premier League can only have a 25 man squad (8 home grown) until next January, what will the other players do? reserve teams or loan to Championship clubs? Maybe the Premier clubs will have to pay the loan player''s wages if they want to give them playing time on a regular basis or risk the standard of reserve games being as good as Championship level. It could be a good opportunity for Champ clubs to pick up some quality loans, or on the other hand if these loanees are plenty, it could prevent younger players coming through and getting playing time.Interesting to see how this turns out, especially clubs like Man City. Probably Arsenal can get round it as their players might fit the under 21 exemption.
ncfc_1902 0 Posted July 28, 2010 I don''t think there will be many ''big'' players left out of the squads, nothing that is going to change the face of football anyway. This rule needs to go further to have the kind of impact it is after.....
I am a Banana 0 Posted July 28, 2010 They will sell rather than have quality missing out
Yellow Wal 314 Posted July 28, 2010 This is an excellent rule. And what on earth makes you think there will be no ''big'' players left out? Rumours are that Joleon Lescott who cost Manchester Cirt £M23 may not make the squad. Think of the six big clubs and the massive squads they have and you will quickly realise that there could be some ''big'' casualties. These players would walk into many Premiership teams and this ruling will, hopefully, stop the big teams becoming bigger. One more thing to do ----- ban all loans ------ and the job will become complete. The smaller clubs, ourselves included, will once more be able to pick up fringe players from the top clubs and make them into first team regulars and thus improve the smaller teams and the players.English football would benefit as well as promising players (quite often English as younger foreigners seem to be played more often) in their early twenties would no longer vegetate and fade away into obscurity but would be able to move, develop and prosper. Bethnal Yellow and Green 1,557 Posted July 28, 2010 This ruling won''t affect the "Big 4" as a similar rule has been in action for the Champions League for a while, meaning their squads have been constructed with that in mind. Also this ruling has been coming for a few years now so no club should be surprised by it.Man City will have to clear out some players after their recent spending spree, but it won''t be too hard for them to cull some very average players from their team, Santa Cruz to name but one. Lescott will keep his place as he is classifed "home grown" unlike many of the Man City team.
Yellow Wal 314 Posted July 28, 2010 But this in itself shows the problem. You mention culling some very average players. Yes perhaps Santa Cruz may be an ''average'' player for Man City but he was well above average for Blackburn where, as a result of playing in the Premiership on a regular basis, his game improved and he was able to contribute greatly to his team. With too many players on their books, either at their club or loaned to lesser clubs, everybody misses out. GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,655 Posted July 28, 2010 Augsut 31st will be a huge day for agents of players who have been tipped off that they won''t be in their vlubs 25, to get them moved on before the midnight deadline. Otherwise there will be a real danger that they will be kicking their heels until January.Sept 1st will be a huge day for championship clubs pouring over the lists of players who haven''t made the squads, there could be some rich pickings?? Gingerpele 0 Posted July 28, 2010 Woodgate is the most likely ''big'' player to miss out in the 25 in any team this year....Man City don''t count, as they don''t want half their players anyway, and Man. U will probably only have to leave out Hargreeves, who will probably be injured for the whole season again anyway.....
