Doh! Meant Martin of course!

Have we cloned the Admiral, Jim?

I would be surprised if Fox doesn''t start, and I have a feeling we might see more 4-3-1-2 than the diamond this season.
Jackson will have to earn his place or wait for an injury, let''s not forget that Chrissy scored more goals than Jackson last season (albeit in a far superior side). The exciting thing is that we now have real quality on the bench and can take off Holt or Martin and bring on a very quick, very talented, young, hungry striker for whom this is a massive career move. I would argue we now have the perfectly balanced strike force with the physicality and work rate of Holt (plus his good touch for a big man), the finesse of Martin and the pace of Jackson, if all three live up to the potential they displayed last season we could be on to a very very good thing; trying not to get over excited considering last seasons debacle but I just cannot wait for the 6th of August.
It''s also nice to know that, not only do they have distinct complimentary attributes to one another, that will be utilised by (arguably) the two most talented passers outside the Premier League in Wes Hoolahan and Andrew Surman, but that all 3 have now proven that they can be prolific goalscorers at League level, and as history has shown, many succeed in replicating whatever goalscoring form they''ve shown in the lower Leagues into the Championship when backed by the right quality of team. And it''s also a comforting thought that we''re talking about Jackson as a young, up and coming prospect (and he certainly is), but at almost 2 years younger we have Chris Martin (struggle to remember that at times), who has already shown a prolific goalscoring rate by scoring 22 (?) goals last season at League One level at the mere age of 21. It''s almost frightening to think how he could be in a few years time.

If Jackson gets straight into the team first game of the season, i will be dissapionted, Martin, Holt (and Hoolahan....) had a great partnership, so i think to start with its only fair Martin (unless injured or something) keeps his place to start with, and  Jackson comes off the bench....

It''s quite obvious what Lambert plans to do. We''ve been told all summer we need to sign a winger but do we? Don''t forget Grant Holt played on the wing for Forest and where did Lambert play him Saturday? So, that''s it then......Martin and Jackson up front! [<:o)]

Based on all ive seen of him, Crofts looked good attacking as well as defending and Lambert was definately giving fox all the orders around the holding position and spreading the play on sat which seemed to work quite well so wouldnt be surprised or disappointed to see--------------------Ruddy--------------------Martin-----Ward--------Whitbread-----Drury------Crofts---------Fox---------Surman-----------------------Hoolahan------------------------------Holt------------Martin/Jackson---

[:(]
Amongst many other things, two things wrong with that is that Chris Martin has more often played on the right than the left, and Surman is without question a left sided player. Now suposing we weren''t just relying on Crofts and Surman (who forwardly speaking would be completely nullified in this role) to run a 2 man midfield against the 4''s and 5''s they''ll be competing with in the Championship, and Martin did actually perform midfield duties, those players would be left virtually impotent by the abilities their roles require (which are in complete contrast to what their best at). We''ve got to seek to utilise our players abilities, way above trying to fit them all in, otherwise you''re relying on them to perform duties their incompetent in, in which case we''d be better of playing 14 and 15 year olds derived from the youth academy, who atleast specialise in their roles, and the intricate requirements of that side of the game.My line-up :GK - RuddyRB - MartinRCB - WardLCB - WhitbreadLB - DruryLCM - SurmanCM - CroftsRCM - SmithCAM - HoolahanST - HoltST - Martin

We can''t rely on Crofts to hold the midfield alone. He''s strong defensively, but not to the same kind of degree Russell was, and Darel needed the support of Smith and Lappin as it was. And this is even less so the case with Surman, so the thought of depending on Crofts, Surman, and Chris Martin (!) to hold the midfield is frankly frightening.Playing three forward players at the tip of the team doesn''t give sides the licence to add more in the midfield. Infact it''s quite the opposite, and just doing so has to be accommodated by a defensively minded midfield so as to have a remote chance against the bigger midfields they''ll be up against.

This gives us room to manouvre all round.

Martin has played down both wings and in the ''hole'' last season and if I am right has scored from all the positions he has played in.

The only thing I am thinking right now is that £600k is a heck of a lot to spend on a player who will warm the bench. So I think its very much a - show me who''s best lads.

I think it will be chopped and changed depending on who we play and the form of the player in question. Not sure how well this will go if they are not entering a reserve team for next year mind you.
