Theoklitos v Everton

Recommended Posts

OK, so as some know I am in Australia and currently in Brisbane. So when I heard Theo signed for "The Roar" I had to see him play against Everton. So here is my opinion of the game and his performance...

Brisbane Roar 1-2 Everton

The game was 0-0 at half time, and not much to shout about for either team. Both sets of attackers were lively, but the organisation and professionalism was clear to see and the English club were comfortable.

The second half saw Everton really take the game to Roar, and the first goal came not long into the restart. A curling effort from the wide left that most Prem keepers would have done well to stop in honesty.

2-0 from the left hand side again, a lapse in concentration at the back and the ball was slotted calmly past Theo would didnt stand much of a chance.

2-1, and Brisbane scored a great passing move that was driven passed the aptly named Ginger-klitos by the section of crowd I was in.

All in all, Theo didnt have a lot to do that was difficult, and the 2 goals scored would have been world class saves to make.

As a footnote, he had no reaction to the Roar crowd and when I tried to just shake his hand at the end of the game (with my Canaries scalf around my neck) he looked at me and purposefully signed autographs on the other side of the tunnel entrance.

I will not be going to see them play again as there is more atmosphere at a morgue and Theo can be the average sized fish in this tiny pond...

Didnt the game go 0-1, 1-1, 1-2?

Thats what Skysports said and thats the order in which they showed the goals

Absolutely rubbish post, what is the point you are trying to make? Theo didn''t work out at Norwich, was given a release but still you want to keep on him. I''m sorry you didn''t get to touch his hand at the match like you wanted too, oh and sorry the atmosphere at a pre-season friendly didn''t live up to your expectations, the A-Leauge may not be world class but it''s also only 5 seasons old, did you expect it to be premier league level by now?

And for anyone interested here is a real report...

EVERTON

has completed a clean sweep of its Australian tour with a hard-fought

2-1 win over Brisbane on Saturday night, but the Roar''s bevy of

recruits impressed in their first clash at Suncorp Stadium.

After a scoreless opening half, the visitors inched ahead in the

49th minute courtesy of a magnificent curling strike from Jack Rodwell,

who chanced his luck from outside the penalty box.

The Toffees dominated possession and tightened their grip on the

contest after the goal, with Louis Saha and Leon Osman both unlucky not

to score.

That was until ex-Wellington striker Costa Barbarouses brought the

crowd of 19,786 to its feet with a goal against the flow of play in the

66th minute.

Barbarouses stunned the EPL outfit with a deft strike from the

tightest of angles that somehow deceived Everton goalkeeper Ian Turner

before bouncing off the woodwork into the back of the net.

It was the first and only goal the Toffees conceded in their Australian sojourn.

The boisterous home crowd had every right to dream of a shock upset,

with new faces Barbarouses, Thomas Broich, Erik Paartalu all looking

the goods in the orange strip.

However the mismatch in class eventually proved too much, with

Everton substitute Magye Gueye making the most of some lackadaisical

defending in the 83rd minute.

Gueye found himself unmarked at the back of the box and pocketed his

first goal for the tour after a smart through ball from Jose Baxter.

Roar defender Luke DeVere had a good chance to equalise in the dying stages, but it was not to be for Ange Postecoglou''s men.

Nonetheless, there were plenty of positive signs for the Brisbane

coach ahead of his side''s season opener against rivals Gold Coast

United on August 8.

The Roar, who have made a host of changes to their list over the off-season were in no way disgraced against Everton.

The introduction of Barbarouses and Mitch Nichols at halftime was

especially noteworthy, with the pair adding a spark that was earlier

somewhat lacking.

Captain Matt McKay put in a polished performance, new custodian

Michael Theoklitos was solid while Brazilian Henrique was lively.

For the visitors, Rodwell and Seamus Coleman continued their

impressive tour and delivered quality service for the likes of Saha,

who looked like scoring all night long.

However, on the whole Everton were understandably below their best after a busy schedule.

The Toffees will travel straight to Brisbane airport and are due to depart for England at 2.30am on Sunday morning.

Team Aussie!

The OP''s post is terrible, not even factual and are we going to have match reports from every game involving an ex player?
