How much compensation will we get for Philip Roberts joining Arsenal?

Recommended Posts

Nothing

His contract was up, he moved for nothing, we receive nothing.

You do have to wonder what the academy have missed though if he has gone and gotten himself a contract at Arsenal....

It doesn''t matter that he was under 24 as contract protection only comes into play when a player begins a scolarship at the academy.  If he had have been a first year scholar which he would have become had he stayed then we would have been entitled to compensation . He is now that at Arsenal so they can now claim him as a homegrown player and would be entilted to compensation if he was to move now. These rules are pathetic and if Arsenal were to sell him for a fortune, despite the fact that we nutured him from a young age we get nothing. Also if he comes good, guess who will get the praise for bringing him along? Whinger. There need to be far stricter rules about big clubs poaching smaller clubs players and then passing them off as their own, as we could never compete with Arsenal unless the lad was a real die hard City fan.

To be fair, if his contract was up, we may well have offered him a new one, and sopken to him about it in the time leading up to that-but, if he had known (as most likely would) that Arsenal were in the background and interested, it would have been the easiest thing in the world for him to see out his contract at Norwich and just move straight to Arsenal with no complications for him, or them.

And Arsenal may well have made it easier for him or his parents to do that.

So I wouldn''t say that its certain that we just let him go.

Leeds lost two players to Chelsea in a similar fashion, one has disappeared off the radar altogther, the other (Tom Taiwo) is now at Carlisle! Young players are easily tempted by the bigger clubs when it may well serve them better to stay put, but, if they don''t come up to scratch at the bigger club, they will soon be disposed of and our Mr Roberts will have "released by Arsenal" on his CV.
