matt crowhurst 0 Posted July 9, 2010 CITY are pleased to confirm former midfielder Gary Holt has rejoined the Club as Assistant Academy Manager.Holt replaces Dean Rastrick who left Colney last week to take up a new position at Tottenham Hotspur. The 37-year-old will be responsible for the coaching of City''s under-12 to under-16 age groups as well as assisting the current coaching staff with reserve team matters after the departure of Ian Crook this summer.Speaking to First News, Holt says he is delighted to be returning to Norwich City: "It''s something I''ve been working towards as I''ve been doing my coaching badges, I''m on the way to getting my A licence," he said.Having worked with City boss Paul Lambert at both Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester United previously, Holt is looking forward to working behind the scenes again for his fellow Scot: "I worked for Paul before, played against him and with him. It''s always nice to work with people who you have a lot of respect for and I hold him in the highest regard."Academy Manager Ricky Martin added: "To have Gary come on board is really good for the Academy, a former player of the Club, who has embarked on his career as a coach and it''s a good opportunity for him. "It''s an opportunity at an Academy which is well established, to come into a set-up where he''s got experienced people around him and he''ll be able to develop into the role. "I think he''ll bring a lot to the group with his experiences, he''s been a great professional footballer and it''ll be a great opportunity for our Academy players to work alongside him." thirdlion 0 Posted July 9, 2010 Cool. Not the most technically talented of players but gave everything, and is a good role model for younger ones.

Robert N. LiM 4,246 Posted July 10, 2010 I f***in love Gary Holt.Other than Huckerby, has any single player had as much of an influence on a Norwich City season as Gary Holt did the year we reached the play-off final? He was utterly immense. His reputation was tarnished a little bit in the Prem, where he was a little past his best and had one of his three lungs largely filled with blood, but he''s a legend and it''s great to see him back. Although, as he is here, there and every-f***ing-where, he''s never really left.
AndyJR 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Great stuff. A truly proper gent and player. When he was unwell on the coach home once (and I mean he was truly unwell) the coach had to stop about four times. There was a certain player desperate to get back because of his lady being in labour and Holty (despite being very very unwell) just got back on the coach and asked the driver to put his foot on it! Great news to have him a part of things.

PurpleCanary 5,554 Posted July 10, 2010 ---I''m not saying this will turn out to be a bad appointment, but there is an irony here. There now seems to be a consensus (apart from among the xenophobic "passion" brigade) that the main reason for England''s long-term lack of international success is poor coaching at the youth level, with too much effort on athleticism and size and effort and not enough on pure Spanish-style skill.Norwich have in Holt appointed to coach the 11- to 15-year-olds (ie, at a crucial stage in their development) someone who as a player epitomised effort over skill. He had to, because he wasn''t very skilful. Hopelessly one-footed, for starters.Perhaps, though, he will not coach how he played, but the opposite of how he played. As did Dave Stringer. The archetypal kick the ball over the stands defender, but who produced a team that sometimes almost seemed to try to play too much football.
Shaun Tilly Lace 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Two Holts are better than one. Good old Gary.
olster 0 Posted July 11, 2010 Does this mean he will not be playing for Lowestoft this season??? guess not with most youth sides playing Saturdays??
Skippy 0 Posted July 11, 2010 Good to see him back - Lambert must rate him as a coach as where one goes the other seems to follow! Should teach the youngsters some discipline anyway!
