The New(ish) board and the scum derby...

Recommended Posts

Given the new heads at the top level of the club, and their more positive approach to all things Norwich City, does anybody think that they may put more effort into keeping the home scum derby at a reasonable time slot?

Doomcaster et al probably preferred the earlier kick-offs because the were pushed by councils, police, etc. Maybe McNally will make a bit more of a stand?

Then again, maybe the additional policing costs of a later kick off will put them off, thus resigning us to the usual a.m. start time....

I''td be great to have a decent afternoon kick off again, but would you rather see an 11.45 kick off if we can actually get some TV revenue from it this season?

I don''t think they will be prepared to take the risk of the small minority of dickheads from Ipswich and Norwich causing trouble if the kick off times are arranged at "normal" times. It''s a great shame, but I do rather suspect that if City played Ipswich on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm a lot of fans would have consumed a fair amount of drink and therefore the risk of trouble developing has to be greater. I can remember quite a lot of incidents - in both Norwich and Ipswich - with normal kick off times in the past, but I think there has been very little bovva since the times have been changed. Sad but true.

Pubs open at 8am for the Derbies these days so it''s irrelevant if it''s at 3pm. Better policing is all that stops the aggro these days and if Brum Villa, Arse Spurs etc can have games at reasonable times so can we.

They should also take into consideration that many of the people coming to the matches nowadays either weren''t born when all the previous aggro happened at 3pm kos or they weren''t supporting Norwich then.Different mix of people = different behaviours

With a similar police operation to what we see on those awful early Sunday kick offs, kicking off at 3pm would make absolutely no difference whatsoever!

The away fans are escorted at both games from coaches and trains in a manner that they can''t go anywhere other than to the ground!

The original reasons for changing the s cum Derby game to a Sunday was so that yobs didn''t mingle with shoppers and pubs and bars would be closed. Nowadays both reasons are irrelevent cause shops are open on a Sunday and bars and pubs have longer opening hours!

Their hasn''t been serious disorder at the Derby games since the mid 90''s. You only get a few idiots which is no different to any home game or every Friday and Sautrday night in the City. The police have exaggerated brief moments of disorder and linked unrelated incidents to the football in order to justify all the police presense and moving the kick off time.

Its convenient for the police to move the game to a Sunday cause they get overtime!

If the old firm Derby, AresenalVSpurs and other Derby games which would have bigger crowds and seen as more of a risk then the S cum Derby can be played on a Saturday then so can Norwich V Ips hit!

Sunday football never feels right, Sunday lunchtime is ridiculous and I see no real reason why the Derby games can''t be played on a Saturday afternoon!

Sorry to disappoint you, but that''s 100% wrong.

I think it maybe 50% wrong Link.

I''m sure it''s conveniuent for the police to have the game on a Sunday because there''s less going on in the City. But I don''t believe they get overtime like in the old days.

I haven''t posted in a while - when I did the post preview, all my lines were bunched together. It looked like the longest sentence ever.

Clearly adding some extra lines in between was not the way to go....

Back to the original post, does anybody think McNally may look after the clubs interest (i.e. the fans opinion of kick off time), rather than the police''s interest?? Maybe it''s just wishful thinking :-(.

To be honest, the trouble at the Scum derby is almost pantomine level compared to the scummy Leeds away fans.  I''d rather move the Leeds game forwards and keep the derby at 3pm Saturday.

The police don''t get ovetime on a Sunday, the ''copper'' who told you was mugging you off.

It might be a rest day and you get a day back or uf they were given less than 5 days notice it would be double time if they were off.

I would like to see a Tuesday evening match, the atmosphere would be quality.

Spot on!

I haven''t been in a bad atmosphere like last seasons Leeds game for many years. Their was more chance of that kicking off big time than against the Blue S cum!

You obviously know best about the cops!

Agree with you about a Tuesday evening. Any evening apart from Sunday evening would be better than Sunday lunchtime. I remember 1 or 2 evening games in the 90''s especially the 3-1 victory on a Friday night about 1996, great atmosphere and if memory serves me right the City wasn''t ripped apart by warring tribes!

This Sunday lunchtime farce has got to end!

Its not up to the board is it? i would have thought the only reason it gets moved is because of the Police deciding it should be......are any derbys on saturday at 3:00? (in championship and above at least....)

Ipswich away is Easter Saturday followed by Derby at home on Easter Monday. It will be interesting to see what happens as if Ipswich move it from the Saturday to the usual Sunday i am sure Derby will kick up a stink because the Monday fixture will have to be moved.
