Adam NCFC 0 Posted May 19, 2010 What do you think it is, that stops players being good in the league above? People have made threads about, "Will PL be able to do it in the championship?" - "Will Holt make the step up?".. What do you think stops a player from being good in the league above? Holt is a goalscorer, I don''t think he will forget how to put the ball in the net, he just needs the service.. I know better defences will be in the championship, but that''s why we need better service..
Boyo 0 Posted May 19, 2010 For players like Holt it will be because his game is all about strength and power and bullying the defence. This is easy for players of his ability to do in League 1 but in the Championship the defenders are just that bit better and won''t be bullied and think ahead and are always one step ahead. He won''t forget how to score and when he gets a chance he will find it just as easy to put it past the keeper but it all depends on his service and whether he can get in front of the defender and be one step ahead of them instead of the other way round. This is why I think Chris Martin will score more goals than Grant Holt next season. Chris Martin is a natural striker who knows where the net is and has a natural ability to get in the right position and be one step ahead of the defender. Grant Holt is not a natural player, he has to get his goals from sheer hard work and if the defender is one step ahead of him throughout the game he will struggle. singing canary 0 Posted May 19, 2010 some of the teams in division one would give teams in the championship a good run for their money .take Southampton beating Ipswich for example.the gulf between premiership and championship is far bigger than championship to division one.take Leicester for example , had a fairly good season just after promotion. The point about newly promoted sides has to be taken with a pinch of salt as well, because generally clubs will strengthen their squads significantly between winning promotion and the next season.Moving up a division usually involves a need to adapt to a faster game speed, increased fitness levels and cannier opponents. It''s a mental thing as much as a question of ability, and it''s a strange phenomenon that players who are least expected to be able to adapt do so, while apparently more gifted colleagues don''t, simply because it''s about self belief as much as talent. I think Holty will do ok because he will just be himself, but others might find it harder.
singing canary 0 Posted May 19, 2010 oh agreed , i think most of or players to be honest will cut it .discipline and tactics .. you cant knock lambert for that , that''s a sure bet
Adam NCFC 0 Posted May 19, 2010 I personally think alot of it is menal [:)] Derby (for example) may just think, oh another season in the championship, few draws here, few wins here, few losses here.. Whilst we have that winning mentality at the moment, so they will be hungry to keep winning. Every time we''ve lost this season, we''ve come back next game and played really well, as we didn''t like losing. Take the Leyton Orient game, we were total Sh!t, next game Charlton away, we had a weakened team and got promoted.. I think alot of it is mental. Who do you think will cut it next season, and who won''t?I think Holty given the service will do it, Chrissy, again with the service. I do think we need another creative midfielder, but maybe a striker. But I personally think we''re used to winning, so they will strive to carry it on.
