Everyones a critic?

Recommended Posts

Just read the Croft signing thread and one thing stands out for me, and that''s how some will criticise everything no matter what!

Why can''t we see how this lad gets on before we slag him off.

For all of those that expect stars and think we need them, take a close look at Blackpool, can anyone name me a player in their team who you would know about as being "quality", the only one that springs to mind is Charlie Adam.

Do you think the Blackpool fans slagged off their new keeper, some guy called Gilks from Norwich reserves who had hardly played, look at him now!

Craney - Leeds reject

Baptiste - Mansfield

Evatt - Played for Blackpool in league 2

Ormerod - ageing and once played for Soton

Burgess - Who?

DJ Campbell - non league and on loan from Leicester.

Anyone getting the point yet??

Let''s just see shall we!?!

Did people really get excited about any of them? I can say that I''d only heard of Peter Thorne out of the lot and I wasn''t excited by any of them!

Exactly. You would have thought that everyone on here has a bloody season ticket at Brighton the way they go on about Crofts. The majority of you lot don''t know how good he is because you haven''t seen him play. Stop making out as though you are football experts when you''re quite blatantly not.

I think the big let downs for me were Jarrett and Brellier. I was intrigued how two players who came to us with such good reputations could be so bad. However the constant that linked both was that when we signed them neither had played much first team football and both players careers were subsequently in decline as a result. Brellier had fallen out of favour at Hearts and Jarrett was attempting to battle back from a broken leg.

I have never seen Crofts play so I will not pretend I know anything about the guy or his style of play. What I do know is though that he played 50 games this season, has won the player of the season award and has been praised highly by Poyet who doesnt beat about the push (see his comments regarding Calderon). So he is clearly a player who seems to improving rather than going the other way. I don''t know whether the lad will any good because you can never gurantee that a signing will work. But unlike Strihavka they have clearly done their homework on the guy and that is good enough for me.

Yes, but on the other hand, look at the excitement caused by our signing

Julien Brellier

Jason Jarrett

Carl Robinson

Peter Thorne

David Strihavka

Works both ways, hey.

People were drooling over the signing of Dave Striker.....and Brellier...a lot of you were trying to get Hearts banner "Le Judge" to carrow road.

I agree with the original poster. I havent commented on him- why??? Because ive never seen him play or he hasnt stood out when I have.

Im going to moan about him but im nt going to trot the now trdaitional "I trust Lambert" line either.......we wont know till next seaon.....recall 1 certain poster saying Theokiltos was the best keeper to sign for Norwich for years.

Ive no commment...im sitting on the fence on this....aslong as Nutty Nigel will budge up LOL.
that should have read - Im NOT going to moan about him
Just a curious question. You are quite rightly reserving judgement at this moment as I am because I have never seen him play. But how many games would you give Crofts before you formed a definitive assessment. Lets face it Iwan Roberts was pretty terrible in his first season and actually got booed at times (source: his autobiography). However he went on to be City hero after there and to be honest saved us from relegation a couple times when we probably deserved to go down. I am not saying Crofts will go on to achieve as much as the great man but it shows that a player must be given time and patience.

Very true, our last 2 seasons should have learnt fans that having name players doesn''t mean f uckall!

We had a better team and squad last season with very few name players than the shower of sh ite over the hill loan players and young ones that wern''t interested in our relegation season!

Lamberts signings have been good ones so far and as we''ve seen with Blackpool and Leicester this season having a squad of lesser known players that plays for each other and wants to do well can work!

just read this ..........

he is thought highly of, ....

oth clubs have refused to disclose the fee but The Argus understands the figure could rise to £300,000 for the competitive midfielder, who scored seven goals in 50 games during his only season with the Seagulls.

The healthy profit is of little consolation to manager Gus Poyet, who made Crofts skipper as soon as he took charge in November.

Now he must find not only a midfield replacement for the fans’ player of the season but also a new leader, although Colchester’s Dave Prutton has already been lined up for the former role and could possibly fit the bill for the latter too.

Poyet said: “We are really disappointed that Crofty is leaving us, because he was such an important player for us last season.

“When a team is playing well you inevitably attract attention from other clubs and you can end up losing players.

“But that is football. This is a wonderful chance for Crofty to go and play in the Championship at a great stadium.

“Players only have short careers and he feels he can’t let this opportunity pass him by, so we have to respect that.

“We wish him well and would like to thank him for all his efforts last season.”

Poyet is now playing catch-up in rebuilding the squad, having lost both Crofts and Inigo Calderon after the Spanish right-back failed to meet a contract deadline and had his offer withdrawn amid interest from Southampton.

Chairman Tony Bloom admitted: “Naturally we are bitterly disappointed that Andrew is leaving us, because he had become an important part of the team.

“But we understand what a great opportunity this is for him and we wish him well for the future. I cannot blame him at all.

“We’ll move on. There are lots of players out there and I’d wait until early August to see what team we have assembled then.

“We need to get some quality players in. It will be a different team and it may take a little time to gel but I have got every confidence in Gus.”

Crofts can expect to at least triple his wages with the move to Carrow Road, a remarkable turnaround after former Albion manager Russell Slade signed him for nothing from Gillingham on a two-year deal last June

Obviously, I would give him time to fit in, also lookinh at how often lambert uses him, as lambert will be the one watching him in training.

Someone said they remember people moaning about us signing Grant Holt - I honestly cant, everyone seemed chuffed with it, his form at Forest in League One was good, and he had just score 30+ goals in League Two.
