Jacko 0 Posted May 10, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8671551.stmAnd so it begins. I personally thought the Football League decision to block the parachute payment proposal was fantastic. It represented real guts because it was standing up against making the premiership even more uncompetitive than ever before. However predictably like a spoilt child who can''t get their own way the Premier League has thrown its toys out the pram and is threatening to pull the £30 million in solidarity payments it gives to Football League teams. I really hope the Football League don''t cave in to what amounts to sheer blackmail however sadly I think many clubs might have no choice through financial necessity. Should there be a breakway from the Premiership? I don''t know. But this constant squeeze which is put on clubs outside of the top flight cannot be allowed to continue or the game that we all know and love will completely die. The likes of Gold and Sullivan who have been instrumental in pushing through this deal should really be ashamed.

[/quote]i''d like to see the football league say "B****ks to you" invite the 16 premiership also rans to form a "phoenix premier league" without the big 4 and start making football better again.the premier league would probably try to block it but can they really stop teams leaving the division if something better comes along?i''d give a 4 team premiership 6 weeks before it died on its arse. lol. Phyxius 0 Posted May 10, 2010 I honestly don''t see it being long before the Premiership becomes an NFL type system with 20 franchises and no threat of relegation. (i.e the way the Super League has become now.)
blahblahblah 2 Posted May 10, 2010 According to I think Paul Fletchers blog on the BBC last week, the championship clubs were mainly in favour of the deal - 23 out of 24 of them were in favour, with all league 1 and 2 clubs against. It will be interesting to see whether the problem can be fixed. Money usually fixes most problems.
