Seasonal Ratings

Recommended Posts

GK:

Forster: 9. Please keep him.

Rudd: 8. Looks an exciting prospect.

Alnwick: 6. Wasn''t here very long but reliable.

Theo: 1. No comment.

RB:

Spillane: 7. Right back was his own before injury. Goal of the season.

R Martin: 8. Has done everything asked of him and don''t recall any mistakes he has made.

Otsemobor: 5. Had one good game but for the rest was awful.

Francomb: 7. Expecting him to be the next academy product to break into the first team.

CB:

Nelson: 8. Late season form has talked him into a chance in the side next season after many had written him off.

Doc: 9. The comeback king.

Askou: 7. Started off really well but unlucky with injuries.

Whitbread: 6. Not played much yet but expect him in starting 11 by October.

LB:

Drury: 9. Has found his form of old.

Rose: 7/8. Covered well and I think he is a lot better than what some give him credit for.

Wiggins: 5. Shame it didn''t work out as he is supposed to be a young, hungry player.

RM:

McVeigh: 5. Does a lot behind the scenes which mostdon''t realise but probably won''t be here next year.

Whaley: 3. Good pre-season but didn''t show in the league.

CM:

Gill: 6. Not given much of a chance but has shown what he can do on numerous occasions. Hope we keep hold of him.

Russell: 9. Best player in the league for breaking up play and my POTS.

OTJ: 4. Like Gill hasn''t really been given a chance which is a shame because I think he could of done a job for us.

Smith: 9. No one else at the club can match his energy and he can put away a few. My YPOTS.

Hughes: 7. Was our best player early in the season but got injured at the wrong time. Performance of the season Vs. Leeds away.

Adeyemi: 6. Still very young but will certainly break into the first team soon.

LM:

Lappin: 8. Form dropped mid season but has picked up again close season and is matching his early season form. Has a lot of commitment for the club.

McNamee: 7/8. One of the best crossers we''ve had for a while and strikes fear into the opposing team''s defence but workrate could be a bit better.

AM:

Hoolahan: 9. The midfield maestro.

ST:

Cody: 7. Not had much of a look in but still looks an impressive prospect.

Holt: 9/10. The fault he has is the dirty side of his game with many stupid tackles and suspensions. That aside he has been talismanic and will captain us to  Wembley next year.

C Martin: 9. One the best finishers in the league. He will go a long way now he has sorted his attitude.

Oli: 8. Coup of the season. Nobody had heard of him before we signed him but, as Lambert says, will one day make it to the Prem (hopefully with us).

Maric: 2. I swear he was just an overweight Turkish fruit seller.

Elliot: 6. Scored cruciall goals against Hudders but has been average apart from that.

People seem to like knocking him when they have no reason too. Covers the 2 CB''s well and often saves there ass with last ditch tackles. Also playing a nrrow diamond you dont get much cover in front of you. I think bar 1 or 2 games he has looked solid.

Yup, I''d like to chip in on the Russell Martin thing as well. I really can''t understand why he seems to get the criticism he does on here and sometimes at the ground (well apart from it being a case of people not knowing what they''re talking about and/or people who just have to have a whipping boy).

He''s done a really good job for us since he''s been here, has settled in nicely at right back and I''d be very surprised if he isn''t the managers first choice there going into the new season.

[/quote]Agree. He''s been so steady its untrue. he reminds me a bit of Edworthy.Nothing spectacular but never lets you down. He does look handy going forward at times too. A cross in the MK Dons game (I think Martin hit the post?) was better than anything i have seen from a City winger in yrs!

Yeah, he put a couple of great balls into the box in that game I think. One low across the deck and another with a bit of height on it.

As you say he''s very steady in that position and he''s got a good turn of pace to get forward but also across the line - there''s been a couple of when teams have broken against us down the opposite side of the pitch but he''s got across very quickly to cut out the danger. Which is definitely one area where he''s ahead of Spillane, he''s a lot quicker and sharper.

Good to see Martin getting some overdue credit. The lad never shirks from getting on the ball, is solid in defence and gets forward well. He doesn''t have Semmy''s explosive pace going forward but he''s a million times better defensively. He also strikes a good shot and has been unlucky not to notch several times this season. As CUSDP and GJP have noted, he reads the game well and covers across. I particularly remember a situation very late on at Charlton where he won a key challenge, then held the ball to draw a foul which allowed us to waste a bit of time. He''s a thinking man''s footballer (which could explain some of the criticism he draws on here[:P]).

Would it be over-harsh if I gave Theoklitos a -1,000,000? Conceding 7 in his 1 appearance, gave away a ridiculous penalty in the reserves v Watford after trying to dribble around a centre-forward (to which the whole of the Jarrold Stand p!ssed themselves laughing), and then misses the team bus on his only opportunity to get back into the First Team..

A true liability

[ /quote ]Francomb has had as good a season as Askou and Hughes, and a better one than Adeyemi and Elliot? No he hasn''t.

The only really poor game i can remember R.Martin having was against Orient away when everyone had a poor game. other than that very solid, no heroics, just gets on with the job in hand, which is often covering for the CBs and when playing the diamond, plugging the gaps on the wing. Can remember numerous errors from Doc, Nelson earlier in the season, Rose, Otsemobor (duh!) whereas cant think of a specific costly error from Martin. Drury has had a fantastic season described as always dependable, can attack well, unlucky not to have scored this season and defends with his life. To me that could describe Martin too
