To be honest, id rather have our trio anyday. Yes its only league 1, but look how many goals theyve scored and they all know each others games well. Holt is Premier league material IMO anyway...

Surely their trio would be Blake, Paterson and Fletcher (bearing in mind paterson was their top scorer last season? I reckon they might buy Nugent. Think ''d rather have Hoolhan (younger and more skillfull than blake), Martin (still developing) and Holt (what do i need to say?!) anyday  [H]

I''d rather have Holt than Beckford. a good old center forward, who can help out defensively, chase opposition when he losses the ball, and is one of the top scorers in the league, all beckford do is finish off chances after just standing around moaning about anything and everything, he also has no passion for the northern scum. Dean Ashton had only ever played for Crewe before joining us...

Players joining clubs that have just been promoted will be much less inclined to accept a relegation clause, so going down will still mean a big fat contract for another couple of years.

Twenty big ones a week or a quarter of that at NCFC? An easy choice.

Of course Holt isn''t championship proven.  So what.   Not every striker in the Prem is Torres or Rooney.  Zamora has looked good this season for Christ''s sake.   Look at the stikers doing ok in the Prem such as Cameron Jerome and Martin Paterson.  They had humble backgrounds and are nothing like as good all round players as the Horse.

I am with Ryan1992 on this.  There is a tendency to play down the abilities of our players and boost those with other clubs.  City fans assume every other team and player is better than us and ours.   There are plenty of average or above average players in the Prem and the Championship.   I could not believe how awful Wigan were on Sunday at least for 85 minutes.   The mid and lower Prem teams are stuffed full of players who are little better than those in League One.

It also depends on the quality of service for a striker.   If Martin and Holt were playing upfront for Arsenal then they would get plenty.  As would Beckford, Lambert or Barnard.    Back to Zamora.  Given good service from a stong team he has thrived when before he made Cureton look competetnt at times.

In fairness, neither was Dean Ashton proven in the Champs, and he went straight from Div1 to the Prem and I do see some similarities between the two.
