Hucks6 186 Posted April 24, 2010 All the people who knocked Nelson should now see how lucky we are to have him.Yes at start of season he didnt play very well but who did,As a supporter since 1960 you can see he is very much in the Duncan Forbes mould,a no nonsense centre back who gets his head or anything else in the way kick it into row z.And also score some vital goals just like Duncan Forbes. So come on you city supporters give credit where it is do.WELL DONE NORWICH IN WINNING LEAGUE 1 AT FIRST ATTEMPT
katie_ncfc 0 Posted April 24, 2010 He was immense today - just as he was last week and would have been my man of the match even without his title winning goal! Ive only been a supporter since 1992 so cant really comment on him compared to Forbes but he is starting to remind me a lot of Malky Mackay - I hope he can be as successful as Malky was in the championship next season!!Ole ole ole ole.... AndyCanary 0 Posted April 24, 2010 You''re right he was absolutely sensational today!! Just another class, unbeatable in the air and his distribution and interceptions were first class. He even did a quality seal impression to try and reach the ball when he was flat out in the box!
AndyCanary 0 Posted April 24, 2010 Oh and he''s a thoroughly nice chap too. He was doing signings in the Gunn Lounge after his MOTM interview and the jobs worths were trying to stop people from going up and asking him if he wanted to finish. He just flatly said no and to carry on [:)]
Captain Controversy 0 Posted April 24, 2010 Yeah he was brilliant today. He has come on leaps and bounds this season. I was worried for a moment when he scythed down one of their players so late that the whistle had gone for a foul to us a few seconds before... but the ref saw sense and saw it for what it was and only gave him yellow. His distribution is 100 times better now and he cuts out nearly everything. I hope he can make the step up because he''s a likable player. And he''s proved a lot of us very wrong!

Teams at every level would pay through the nose for a last-ditch specialist. He''ll more than likely never score for us again after this season, but his desire to stop at all costs is invaluable, whatever level you play at. I''m almost certain he slipped over only to wiggle his body in such a manner to put his /head/ between the ball and the goal during today''s game. Round of applause for The Admiral! Jacko 0 Posted April 24, 2010 I did''nt see the 7-1. But I saw him in training at Hartlepool at lot and early on in the season. I was not particularly impressed. However he has grown as the season has gone on. Certainly our most improved player of the season by far. If you look at his purely defensive abilities there can''t be anyone in the division in the air who is more dominant and his tackling is accomplished too. Really brave as well and gets the block without turning his back on the ball. Admitedly he is not the quickest and his distribution can be pretty poor at times. However I think this has improved greatly of late. He played some good balls out of defense today. In particular there was one in the second half where he was in a tight spot and he got the ball out of his feet nicely playing a good ball down the channel. Can he do it in the championship? I really hope so. After initailly thinking he was carthorse, I proudly have his name on the back of my shirt. Ever since he floored Becchio my mind was made up! CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!! Mello Yello 2,505 Posted April 25, 2010 Michael Nelson thoroughly deserved the MOTM yesterday.....I sincerely hope he has a place in the squad next season. He''s come on leaps & bounds this season....More leaps and bounds than a Kangaroo on acid....Well done Horatio! Beauseant 0 Posted April 25, 2010 I was one of those who slagged him earlier in the season but he''s won me round completely. He''s developed his game to compensate for his lack of pace by either getting so tight to his man that he can''t turn or by reading the play to gain an extra yard. In addition he''s hards as nails and I think we all loved the scything after the whistle that got him booked.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted April 25, 2010 Prior to joining us he had been at Hartlepool for much of his career. When he first joined a lot of the Hartlepool reaction was that he had been excellent but had gone of the boil and lost his way somewhat. Clearly with the right manager and the challenge of a bigger club and more to play for he has risen to the challenge. He is great in the air and reads the game well. I think he will do very well next year and deserves to start with Doc
City penguin 0 Posted April 25, 2010 i did slate him a lot early on and deservedly so but now surely he must be at least on the bench for the championship. Our Cbs when askou and whitbread are fully fit is probably our strongest area. on the pitch.
kdncfc 0 Posted April 25, 2010 He has improved immensely in the last few months of the season, his improvement has been even more impressive when you consider he is a right footed centre half playing on the left side of the defence. I hope he gets a chance in the championship because he certainly deserves it but if he does start I''d feel far more comfortable if he was paired with someone with a bit more pace than the Doc. Think he could be ok if he was paired with the right person in that division.
nutty nigel 7,825 Posted April 25, 2010 Nelly and Doc have made a good partnership together this season. Nelly has won me over with his performances. And I bet Doc has been more comfortable playing beside someone who is committed to defend. Not sure about him playing beside someone with more pace. Doc would be one of the quicker centrebacks in the Championship. To find someone as good as him with more pace would be well out of our price range.
Dibs 0 Posted April 25, 2010 Totally agree with you Nutty, I''ve always rated Nelson over Doc although Doc did have one his better seasons, I think that Askou+Nelson work better.

People assume Askou is faster than The Doc simply because he looks a relatively lean young man… whereas The Doc looks like a footballer from a bygone era when a fag at half time was de rigeur. Getting fed up of repeating myself, but The Doc is not slow.Of course he will be slower than some if not most forwards… that is the case with Terry and Ferdinand as well is it not? Could Terry outrun Ronaldo? Errr… no!Its far more about timing and positioning with your centre backs and that is where both of our ''preferred'' CBs have improved massively this season (which is due to their being coached by one of the best defenders that I have ever seen play for the club). If your CB is left in a foot race with a pacy centre forward, then in short, your midfield have failed in their jobs.
Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted April 25, 2010 I was 1 of Nelson''s bigger critics but his performances since the turn of the year have been crucial to our promotion & title win. He wins every header and gets his body in there to prevent goalscoring opportunities, however everytime he finds himself against a striker with any sort of movement and trickery he struggles, next season teams will get the ball into their strikers far more and they''ll run at him and I fear for him then, also next season we''re going to need to keep the ball better, particularly from the back, there is being no nonsense as a defender and then there is giving the ball away needlessly. Fair play to the lad he''s a major reason in our success this season but his limitations will be exposed far more next season.
Barclaybred 0 Posted April 25, 2010 He is the sort of player that will fight for the badge, especially in the derby games next season! ..Shame we cannot accomodate Doc,Askou and Nelson in the side at the same time, especially when the blue s...comes to town next season :) CHAMPIONONIEES CHAMPIONEEES O ley O ley Oley! Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted April 25, 2010
He was brilliant yesterday, and I had him as my man of the match before he even scored his goal.
Don''t deny that but he pretty much gifted Gillingham a goal when Rene Howe waltzed past him having needlessly dived in, in the box. He simply struggles against mobile strikers, next season that chance will be taken more often than not.

grantroederdisaster 0 Posted April 26, 2010 Yes Nelson has been superb for some time now! As for the urban myth that the Doc is slow - bolloc*s! Remember the Forest home game last season when he outpaced Earnie! The Doc is not slow and I think him and Nelson together can hack the Championship playing like they have this season! freddyf105 0 Posted April 26, 2010 He outpaced Kevin Doyle too... several times!
Bury Yellow 2 Posted April 26, 2010 I certainly think there is a parallel with Duncan Forbes progress. If my memory serves me well, he was signed by Saunders and was very much a Div 3 type central defender without any finesse. When John Bond and his coaching staff arrived, Big Dunc gradually found some real skills. As Andy has mentioned with The Admiral our super coach Culverhouse has obviously helped him and indeed Doc. Team organisation has also played a major part.Nothing got pass the Lord on Saturday. As Lambo would say ''He''s been terrific for me''

He''s scored three including an overhead kick, had one off the line, had two disallowed and always looks dangerous at corners. I like him and think he has a place in the squad for sure... One position we certainly don''t need to bring new players in for in centre back. The Doc, Nelson, Zak (will be brilliant next season if given a run of games) and Jens are all decent defenders and luckily two are left footed and two are right footed which helps out.
