Sky sports say we need 7 more points.

Recommended Posts

9 point lead on 3rd with 5 games remaining. Yes that is true. Also it''ll probably be 7 points to win the league based on our superior goal difference.

Beeb are saying this aswell. So ideally wins against Orient and Gillingham and draw at charlton. We could still get all but promoted I believe on tuesday. Need swindon not to win and Leeds to lose and us to win against orient. If this happened would be a 12 point gap with four games left. So that means that we would need to totally blow our goal difference and also lose every game while the others would need to win all theres which wont happen. Swindon have Exeter at home monday so hopefully exeter can get a draw and Leeds have got Carlisle away which is by no means an easy game

So we can still go up at Charlton. [:D]IF, and a massive if, other teams lose on Tuesday.

Although as a previous poster discussed, a win for us plus a loss for Leeds and a loss or draw for Swindon is essentially good enough in all but the most freakish of scenarios. So id start partying in that case! But we cant officially be promoted as our goal difference is still reachable (Indeed if Millwall were to catch us up and draw level expect them to have a better GD)

If we win both our next two games, then even with worst scenario (i.e. everyone winning) for teams below us, we''d be 9 clear of Leeds and 8 clear of Millwall, with Swindon out of contention.

Basically, win Tuesday and Saturday, and we will get promoted at Charlton in my opinion.

However, I predict 3-4 points from next two games rather than all six. Can''t see us beating Charlton without Holt.

Actually we CAN be promoted at Charlton - although the ''repeat of 72'' and promotion at Orient cant

We are on 86 points, Millwall on 78, Leeds 77 and Swindon 76.  If we win on Tuesday, we''ll be on 89 points - if the others lose, then we''ll be 11 points clear of 2nd and 12 clear of 3rd with 4 games left.  Win v Charlton and we''re up as Champions - draw and we will be up, and thats assuming the others all win.

Do agree on the comment re: goal difference - Millwall are only 6 behind us GD wise and the rate theyre scoring goals - especially at home - they can easily catch us in that respect

No worries - did wonder if you''d got them mixed.  Shame we cant go up at Orient tho hopefully wont be too long before we get across that line

What a lot of posters seem to forget is our superior goal difference is worth a point to us, so whilst we are currently 9 points clear of third place the superior goal difference effectively means the third placed team has to get 10 points to overhaul us. If we win on Tuesday and so does the team in third place it would mean they would have to win all four (or maybe win three and draw one depending on how may they score and we concede in those four games) of their remaining games and we would have to lose all four for them to overtake us.
The goal difference between us and Millwall is only 6.
The goal difference between us and Leeds in 3rd is 10, and 23 on Swindon in 4th, which at the moment is surely more important.

Its been said quite alot that for the last few seasons 88 points has been enough for automatic promotion so its likely we won''t even need 7.
Recent seasons doesn''t mean squat. It''s this season what matters, however I think we''ll get promoted at home to Gillingham. [:)]
I am only talking about promotion rather than winning the title, currently Leeds are third and currently our goal difference is superior by +10.
If Leeds move level with us that would mean three wins for them and three losses for us. In that case our GD advantage has every chance of disappearing depending on how much we get beaten by, and how much Leeds beat their opponents by.As shown today, Millwall clawed back a 10 goal deficit to 6 in one game. And that included us drawing!

For example if we lose our next three games 0-1, 0-1, and 0-2; and Leeds win their next three 3-0, 3-0 and 1-0; that would put us level on points and behind on GD. I seriously doubt it will ever come to it, but as it stands if we finish level with Millwall they are very likely to have a better Goal difference than us, if we finish level with Leeds it would be very tight, we would probably have a goal or two enough to stay above them. Either way, im sure it wont come to that [:)]

I guarantee that we won''t lose our next 3 games.  Gillingham haven''t won away all season!  Orient are ok at home but on poor form -
As I live down south, and my Father-in-Law is a Saints fan we went to Southampton for their game with Leyton Orient on Easter Monday.I was impressed with them. They were very well organised and love a direct ball through the channels, that caused Southampton problems all game. This game will be tough and without the missing Holt and more than likely Wes, I think we''ll get a draw, especially as our form isn''t pulling up trees at the moment.
