Slade

Orient fan here.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I''m a cynical and unhappy Orient fan whose username reflects our new manager rather than everyone''s favourite 70''s rock group.

Yeah, we''re gonna get smashed. Geraint Williams, our fat clueless Welsh ex-manager (and ex-ipswich of some 220 appearances) signed a crock of sh1t, we have no width to our strike quartet of mediocres (we had a fifth who was actually some kop called Jonathan Tehoue but he''s out for the season).

Slade knows how to beat the drop, I''ll give him that but he is defensive and a long ball merchant, so expect us to play for a 0-0, which would suit me, bearing in mind we have Stockport at home on saturday.

We also have some familiar faces. James Scowcroft, ex-Ipswich, would have been a cracking signing 3 years ago, we all thought he would rip up the league. Well folks, he hasnt scored all season. His legs have gone basically,  and I think he took this league for granted. He was only signed cos he is mates with Williams but on 4k a week (by far our top earner), he has been a dissapointment. Feel free to abuse him cos he wont score tomorrow.

Then we have Andrew Cave-Brown who wont play. Mediocre right back in the extreme, nothing going forward, suspect at the back at times. A league 2/ Conference player unfortunately.

And Ryan "Legs-of-jelly" Jarvis. The guy is woeful. Scored 6 times in 10 games in a loan spell 3 years ago, then we signed him permanently and has scored 6 times in over 50 appearances. He does work his balls off but is not a footballer. You will laugh at his inability to play the game. He also looks like Darren Fletcher.

Erm, in terms of decent players we have, pretty much only our keeper, our centre back with the long name (Mkandawire) who is apparently a transfer target for you, cos he is too good for us, Sean Thornton is ok as long as he isnt down the pub, and Scott McGliesh is 90 but can still score.

For many of you this will be your first trip to our tinpot ground in years and it will almost certainly be your last as you go up and we go down. You are situated in the only stand with any atmosphere, the East, which has a low roof etc, great for noise-making. We have flats, yes flats, in all corners, and behind both goals. Our chairman Barry Hearn, as you probably know, is a cheating F**king **** who has raped this club and the ground of its character. It used to look like this https://www.specialistauctions.com/cache/cache_500_1__httpwwwfootybitscoukimagesorientjpg.img?9007. I hope he rots in hell. More info here: http://www.footballgroundguide.com/leyton_orient/ Having sat in the East for years when it was our old main stand, the toilets are questionable, as is the cuisine.

Pubs wise, the Coach and Horses is the away pub, it smells a bit but is alright. Our supporters club in the main stand (the one that looks like an office block) is brilliant, has real ales galore and reasonable prices. You''ll get no aggro in there, everyone is lovely. Further afield is the Birkbeck Tavern, which is near the tube station, the "home" pub, and again you''ll find no aggro there.

Parking, street is okay but you have to just look hard and find somewhere. There is parking at a small fee in New Spitalfields market, about a 10 minute walk away, away fans tend to go there. Or use the tube, the ground is 10 mins walk away down Leyton High Road.

May the best team win. That will be you, by a scorline of 4-0. Good luck for the championship.

P.S. I hear Holt and Hoolahan arent playing - Oh well, dont worry, your reserves could beat us.

As im sure you know Cave Brown and Jarvis came from here.Always heard Cave brown was highly rated but never really saw him play. While Ryan Jarvis we all know how shit he is. Started off well scoring againt Liverpool but very quickly went sour for him and he went onto do nothing. Some people will say he wasnt given enough of a chance but whenever he did play he was shocking.Think you will give us a tough game as it is Russell Slades first game and reckon your boys will be up for it and if im honest im not exactly brimming with confidence as I was before about this game following Holt being suspended and Hoolahan possibly being out aswell. Heard rumours its sold out is this true?

By the way, despite all this, I forgot to mention that for some reason, Orient is one of the most popular away trips in the league. I''ve spoken to oppositon fans who dont want us to be relegated cos of how much they enjoy themselves coming here.

So ignore what I said

It is Slade''s second game. On saturday we drew 0-0 against Exeter in one of the most boring games on God''s earth.

Sign on things to come?

Seriously mate, you aren''t that bad. I watched the game against Charlton and was impressed although they were abysmal...we have not been as convincing of late and I don''t think it will be the stroll in the park you seem too predict. Holt & Hoolahan have been absolutely pivotal and we have not played a match all season with out them. Our back up is decent but not in the same league, as the two talisman. I predict a tough game, either 1-1 or 2-1 to us. Best of luck in staying up [Y]

Against Charlton we had a winger playing for us called Nicky Adams on loan from Leicester. He won that game for us with some genuine width. We haven''t got him anymore.

Thanks mate some good info here.

To give you a bit of hope then we were kicked of the park on Saturday by the franchise team and we could have quite a few injuries - no one really knows at present, although Holt is definitely out suspended.

In our favour we are surely due a decent refereeing decision after some of the joke decisions we have had in our last few games.

I believe you also have Jimmy Smith? we had him on loan from Chelsea a few years back,  but cant really remember him doing anything here! Cheers for the info by the way, plus, what attendance roughly do you think it''ll be? Good luck this season, except for tomorrow obviously [;)]

Jimmy is clearly talented but this season has had a terminal loss of confidence resulting in his being utterly woeful this season. I think he has been mismanaged, badly.

Apparently the game is a sellout, which should mean 9.5k but it never works like that here cos of season ticket holders who dont turn up and also 1000 seats not used in the away stand for safety reasons. I reckon somewhere in the region between 7k and 8k.

Got a soft spot for Orient - a mate of mine had a trial there when we were doing our GCE ''O'' levels - went down to London with him for a week.  Jimmy Bloomfield was then manager and what a lovely bloke he was - also had some good players ...Ray Goddard, Terry Mancini.  Haven''t been down there since we played in the FA Cup in ''78.  Hear the Social Club is good....does it cost anything to get in?

Lol! Crap how when you''re down at these levels of english football you get all the nearly men passing through on their way to the footballing graveyard! We''ve had it for a number of years even in the championship since peter grant and glenn roeder darkened out doors. We''ve been lucky to get a manager now who refuses to take on players like that who would rather just have a knock about on a saturday, pick up the wage packet and then do down the pub like you say!!

[/quote]is this cos of unreserved seats? why dont you sort it out so you can fill the stand, we couldve done with the extra 1000 tickets.

the few rows nearest the pitch are always cordened off due to poosible pitch invasions after Leeds fans did it. Blame those scumbags.

sean thornton is a quality player, just likes a drink. he has still on the whole been good for us. you have it all wrong with Super Scott. The guy is 36, Williams went on record saying he signed him last season to be a talisman rather than anything magical on the pitch in his twilight years as a pro. Well he scored 6 in 10 at the end of last season and has got 11 this year, as well as being an absolute hero for us. he scored his first pro goal with us as a teen on loan from charlton in 1995 and has "returned home" in our eyes.

the supporters club costs a quid to get it, has all sorts of CAMRA rated real ales.

The bit about no trouble,i havent been but my older bro and dad,who actually is east ham born n bred, went there in the late 70`s for a fa cup match on a friday and though you are right there wasnt no trouble with the orient fans, when the special train pulled in the station, the police told the fans they would be sharing a side stand with a load of hammers fans? and they were right! and though there wasnt much trouble from them, at the end when norwich got a late equalizer(nothing changes then :) , a few scuffles broke out..Thankfully those days have gone and only millwall/leeds and a couple of west midland sides still live in the past..I cant go tomorrow due to work,im sure you are better than you are making out,as when we played you here,we found it hard to break you until you went down to 10 men....If we do win i will go for 1.0 to us but gotta feeling its gonna be goalless

Thanks for posting the info about tomorrow nights game Slade. We haven''t played Leyton Orient much at all in recent years Until this season I think the last time we met was in the FA Cup 3rd Round way back in 1976 ? I was there that night at Carrow Rd when we were in the top flight and three minutes from the end the legendary Peter kitchen sent a bullet header into the net to give the O''s a shock win.Not so sure you''re right in thinking we''re going to cruise home. We''ve been a bit wobbly lately and our main goalscorer is suspended so I don''t think most off us reckon it''ll be a walk in the park tomorrow night. My first trip to Brisbane Rd and I''m looking forward to it...

The last time we played Orient was home and away in 1982 on the way to promotion. The home game was the last at CR that season and there was a magnificent pitch invasion at the end. Happy days!

Stadium looks a lot more modern than I thought it was, have to say the newer stand looks truly awful with the 3 rows of execs boxes?! Pointless having a roof on it me thinks! And who would want to live with a balcony facing the pitch! Unless you are an avid Orient fan..... but I''m sure it''ll be a close game, needn''t fear!

As I said, the main stand is butt ugly. I sit in it and the view is pukka, but it is like a morgue at times atmosphere wise.

But the supporters club is in there and that''s where I''d recommend you drink. Food wise, there''s a great caff on the High Road called the Royal Cafe. There''s also a KFC and some sandwich type places, and two chippies near the ground. Dont rely on the stuff inside, it''s shite.

Away fans have been known to chant "WE CAN SEE YOU WASHING UP" at people in the flats. Must be a great view from there but open to all sorts of abuse. Flats in the corners, who''d have thought it :( HEARN WOULD, THE CNUT.

But as you can see, your stand is old, low roof etc, great atmosphere created.
