Lappin Dropped??

Recommended Posts
The game against MK Dons was a real eye opener, he often gets dragged into the middle of the park which leaves an already vulnerable McNamee isolated!!! His efforts this season have been second to none and i value his play this season but i feel over the past couple of months his performance has been left wanting?! With two difficult games againt the O''s and Charlton coming up i feel he needs to be dropped, especially due to the fact that hoolihan is injured and subsequently the diamond formation wont be used
Regardless of the nonsense that has followed I don''t really see why the quote above has attracted quite so much disdain. And the response that ''Paul Lambert seems to think he''s doing OK'' is pathetic IMO. If we''re going to use that as a stock response to any dissent then Pete may as well ban any thread about tactics as clearly we''re not as qualified as the managers making the decisions.

The OP has only got 132 posts to his/her name though so clearly it''s OK to sarcastically refer to them as ''intellectual giants'' or to imply that they may be school kids whose opinions count for nothing [:^)]

I''d argue that, along with the lack of two pacy, aggressive and attack minded full backs, Lappin was always the weak point of the diamond. And as a central midfielder he has mainly been distinctly average for us.

I agree with NCFC4LIFE, i have thought Lappin should have been dropped for a few weeks now. Yes he puts in 100% commitment however i think his passing has been woeful. For a player who is supposed to be a dead ball specialist his free kick taking and corners havent been great and in open play his passing has been very poor, on several occasions on Saturday his passes went straight out when it was easier to pass to the man.

I think Lappin clearly had a dodgy patch but the last few games has played a lot better.  For me the problem recently is that Russell and Smith are probably too similar to play together in a 4-4-2.  We really need someone who can put their foot on the ball and pick a pass - Hughes is more than capable of this.

So lappin goes more central,  ie towards McNamee,  which should shift Korey and Russell across towards McNamee - how does that leave him isolated?

Lappin has been ok in the last 3/4 games - see no reason to drop him at the mo

Your right, isolated was the wrong word, i was trying to say that if we paly four four two in Hoolihan''s absece it doesnt suit Lappin because he wanders into the midfield......I just think Lappin doesnt fit into the team unless we are playing the diamond as he is not a winger, and there are better central players than him.....
Simon Lappin was one of the best players against Stockport, and played pretty well against MK Dons too. No way should he be dropped.
Missed an open goal from two yards as i remember it! [:D]

Totally disagree. Lappin shouldn''t be dropped. Him and Drury compliment each other perfectly. Although he''s not amazing going forward, he''s not too bad, but he gives us a great balance. Not all players can have the flair of say a Mcnamee. He always is winning the ball back for us in the middle of the park, and is the basis for alot of Drury''s overlapping runs. His left foot is decent, and his short passing is alot better than that of say Russell, who gave the ball away far too many times for my liking on Saturday.

Lappin has been average to say the least recently but surely its Mcnamee who needs to be droped? He can deliver a good ball granted but appart from that he is to much of a liability. Ofers nothing defensivly, struggles to get involved and drifts in and out of games and isnt physical enough. Simon Lappin is an average footballer no doubt but at least he is consistent.

Got to say I agree with NCFC4LIFE, on the points a) Lappin should be dropped and b) Morty is a tw*t.

No wonder so many people slate this board, someone voices their opinion (which is the reason for a forum) and gets slated.

Load of tosh!

Load of tosh!
[:D]I will happily slate anyone that starts drivel like this. We have a few average performances and the doom mongers come out of their holes looking for a scapegoat. We seem to get about ten threads a day criticising either Doherty or Lappin, two players that have played a vast majority of our games this season and both more than played their parts in getting us where we are now.Perhaps people should read a few other threads before they come up with these stunning opinions and then they will realise that they have already been done to death 47 times already this week. And it is especially funny when they don''t get the rush of agreement that they obviously crave and get all petulant.

We don''t need a scapegoat, we''re pretty much certain for promotion and the squad deserves a pat on the back for that.

All it is is an opinion, and one a lot of people agree with. I personally think Lappin is treading water at the moment - this does not mean I''m looking for a scapegoat!

I agree with ncfc on this one i have to say watching the stoclport game (i missed the franchise fc game) i felt the big problem we had was we were too one sided because despite playing 4-4-2 when drury or the midfield looked to go left lappin was paying far too centrally and didnt offer us much out wide. Therefore in my opnion (and it is just an opinion) Lappin should either be dropped or play centrally when we go to a 4-4-2 formation.

Don''t worry, I''ve been reading Morty''s posts a while now and they are either effing dull or are about 30 characters long. For some reason his post count seems to have some stature over people with less than a hundred and fifty. Not to say NCFC4LIFE that I agree with you, but this forum is open for debate, yes Morty? Lappin perhaps isn''t as influencial in the most attractive areas of the pitch but he does do a good, ugly job. Plus I think he''s a good organiser and talker, something that Korey Smith doesn''t do as well.He does a good job and proved many people wrong this season, including myself. Not sure who would replace him seems the problem.

I''ve had my doubts about Lappin for a couple of months now. I can''t fault his effort or character and he seems like a great guy to have around the place. At the start of the season his performances were top notch and he fully deserved his place in the team. Now i''m not quite so sure. He does give us balance and I think Lambert likes to play him if Macnamee or Hoolahan are in the team as they don''t track back as much. In a straight forward 4-4-2 though i just think he''s a bit too slow and the game passes him by a bit. For the two away games this week would be tempted to play Hughes and myself but I guess in Lambo we trust!

Sorry that should obviously say I would be tempted to play Hughes myself not that i would pick myself to run out against Orient!
