Set Pieces

Recommended Posts

As a team, we lack pace, but we''re a big team.. We win alot of headers in the other teams box and during the game, until they get a corner...Clearly it''s a problem.. I''m not one of the idiots that think our season is over and we''re the worst team ever, but ALL season we''ve been shit from corners, Lambert has sorted most things since coming in, but how has he not managed to sort the set pieces people swing into the box? [:|]We''re still going up though [:D]

Huddersfield, corner after about 2 mins.. MK Dons.. Corner.. Last night, 2 free kicks.. Tranmere, the first penalty came from a corner... Even at the start of the season we looked awful from corners, Leeds is 1 of the corners I remember.. I don''t see how we can sort everything and Lambert has sorted everything we needed, except set pieces...

Don''t forget swindon aswell. We never scored much in set pieces under Worthington too, last person I remember scoring a few goals with his head was Andy Linighan.

I once saw a programme about Martin O Neil who believed it wasn''t worth practising set plays as all it took was one player to be out of place and all the hours on the practice pitch were waisted. I think this may be a PL virtue passed on from M O''N.

Last night was a sh it night for Norwich fans. I found it frustrating we score a really well worked goal yet lose the game cause we gave away 2 sloppy goals that could of been cut out with good defending. The 2nd goal was the worst cause Nelson was about to head the ball away but for some stringe reason decided to leave it which led to Orients 2nd goal!

set pieces are so important (as digital NRG FC are going to find out this summer!) that they can often win you 2 or 3 games a season. It beggars belief that teams don''t move at throw in''s or put in decent corners. and teams who just squander free kicks.  they can be an extra 2 or 3 goals a season if you get them right!its important to defend them as well. how many goals have city conceded from slack marking at corners in the last few years.a very "English" thing to do is stand there at throw ins.. this happens at all levels of football from premiership downwards, even foreign players who come over here stand rooted. aborad they always look for space and you have 2 or 3 people constantly moving for the throw in.there really is no excuse for professional teams at all.

How about Malky? Scored some excellent headed goals, we do not score many now tho, prob more to do with quality of crosses in the box.

Seem to remember we scored quite a few goals from set pieces in the Premier League season, usually from knockdowns from corners, Francis must of got half a dozen just from knockdowns.

ady you are right malky did score a few goals with his head. Andy Linighan just sticks out as someone who scored with his head at free kicks and corners. I think the art of heading is slowly being lost in the game and the other week when Nelson was attacking the ball in Tranmeres box he looked clueless about scoring with his head. He looked like all his headers where clearances rather than goal attempts.
